Anna Paquin and her husband, Stephen Moyer, stuck together last night to attend an event at LA's LACMA in honor of her movie Margaret. The movie, which was actually filmed back in 2005, finally came out this year after a long period of negotiations between director Kenneth Lonergan and Fox, the movie studio backing the project. Margaret was in theaters for just one week last Fall and then again for a week earlier this year in LA. Now, a push from critics supporting the picture, which also stars Mark Ruffalo and Matt Damon, has allowed Kenneth to create a three-hour version for DVD that was released last Tuesday. Yesterday, Anna and Kenneth attended a screening of the new cut and did a Q&A afterward. Anna's no stranger to talking up her projects, as she also hit Comic-Con over the weekend. Anna and Stephen shared secrets about the new season of True Blood alongside the series' creator, Alan Ball.
Margaret Trailer: Anna Paquin Is Hot For Teacher Matt Damon
The Margaret trailer takes us back to 2005, the year the movie was filmed and its star Anna Paquin was still young enough to play a 17-year-old high school student. After many delays, we're finally seeing the first footage of the Kenneth Lonergan film in which Paquin plays the emotionally torn title character, who battles feelings of guilt after a tragic bus accident leaves a woman dead.
Believing she is partly responsible for the death, Margaret begins to spiral out of control as she attempts to deal with her emotions. As if that isn't bad enough, the bus driver (Mark Ruffalo) gives her a tough time about her desire to come forward with the truth behind what really happened the day of the accident. She begins to crumble in some predictable ways, like letting her grades slip and pushing her family away, as well as some not so predictable ways, like an affair with her teacher, played by Matt Damon. Paquin seems to handle Margaret's dark, emotional journey beautifully, and I'm eager to see her on the big screen again and playing someone besides Sookie Stackhouse. Have a look for yourself before the film hits theaters on Sept. 30 when you read more
