Angelina Jolie was in costume as Maleficent today in the English countryside. We had a first look at Angelina Jolie in Maleficent yesterday, and she continued work this afternoon out in a field with some large animals. She and her family are currently in the UK during the film's production. Angelina, Brad Pitt, and their six kids are making a mansion in the London neighborhood of Richmond their current home base. Brad, though, took a day away last week. Brad went to Germany for Documenta, a once-every-five-years art fair based in the town of Kassel. He was home in time for a special family celebration on Sunday, Father's Day.

See the First Picture of Angelina Jolie as Maleficent

We thought Angelina Jolie was the perfect choice when we found out she would be playing the titular queen in Disney's Maleficent, and now that the first image has been released, we're even more excited for her turn as the troubled royal. The movie, which tells the untold story of the "evil" queen who cursed baby Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty), isn't scheduled for release until March 13, 2013, but we're loving Jolie's look, which looks eerily similar to the animated version of the story.

Angelina Jolie as Maleficent — Yay or Nay?

A while back, I shared Hollywood buzz that had me pretty excited — a movie on Sleeping Beauty's villain Maleficent.

A while back, I shared Hollywood buzz that had me pretty excited — a movie on Sleeping Beauty's villain Maleficent. At the time, Tim Burton's name was being floated around as a possible director, and he's still in consideration apparently (no doubt due to those Alice in Wonderland box office numbers). His possible involvement is enough to keep me intrigued, but now comes word that Angelina Jolie has shown interest in the project as none other than Maleficent herself!

Personally, after hearing this news, I can't imagine anyone else in the role. I'm sure the story will have a darker streak, which is probably appealing to Jolie; plus, it will hopefully be something she can take the older members of her big brood to go see. Even so, other than perhaps Kung Fu Panda, "family films" aren't typical Jolie territory. So, what are your feelings on these rumors?

What Villains Deserve Their Own Movies?

Nothing's been set in stone yet, but rumors are flying that Tim Burton is in talks to make a live action movie about Maleficent, aka Sleeping Beauty's villainess.

Nothing's been set in stone yet, but rumors are flying that Tim Burton is in talks to make a live action movie about Maleficent, aka Sleeping Beauty's villainess. The movie would tell the story we all know and love, but from the evil fairy's point of view.

Turning a fairy tale on its head isn't a new idea by any means, but it's always fun to envision a more developed backstory for some of history's most vile (and seemingly one-dimensional) bad guys. Of course, I can only imagine what Tim Burton would dream up — and how he can fit Johnny Depp into the story line.

The musical Wicked gave a voice to The Wizard of Oz's Wicked Witch of the West, and many of the Batman movies explored the motives and inner workings of Gotham's most terrible criminals. I can't help but think of other famous villains that were never fully explained: for instance, why was Ursula banished from the sea kingdom in The Little Mermaid? Or what made Cruella de Vil so vile? I also wouldn't mind stepping out of the Disney realm and learning a little more about No Country For Old Men's Anton Chigurh or Bill the Butcher from Gangs of New York.

What villains would you like to see get a second chance at sympathy?
