Ahh, the end of September: Fall TV is on the air and school is back in session. It's been an eventful month in entertainment, and as usual, there was plenty of good and bad in the last few weeks. From intense episodes of TV to lackluster movie releases to disappointing news, I'm taking my monthly look back at the highs and lows of September entertainment.

Fox Cancels New Series Lone Star After Only Two Episodes

Well, I guess someone had to be the first to go: after garnering low ratings for its first two episodes, new series Lone Star has been canceled by Fox.

Well, I guess someone had to be the first to go: after garnering low ratings for its first two episodes, new series Lone Star has been canceled by Fox. It was on death watch since its premiere (I tried to rally and gave you reasons why you should watch), and now it's become the official first casualty of the Fall TV season.

The show was one I was looking forward to most this Fall, but it couldn't bring in high enough numbers for its network. I'm sad to see such a promising series cut short after such a brief amount of time, but hopefully this won't be the last we'll see of its crushworthy star James Wolk.

Save This Show: 4 Reasons to Watch Lone Star

From the very moment that I saw the pilot for Fox's Lone Star, it quickly catapulted to my top five list for the new Fall season.

From the very moment that I saw the pilot for Fox's Lone Star, it quickly catapulted to my top five list for the new Fall season. Sex, intrigue, familiar faces, a hot lead — what's not to love? Yet when it came time for the series to bow last week, viewers didn't exactly share in my excitement. The show debuted to abysmal ratings, and early rumblings of cancellation have already begun. Fox is reportedly giving it one more week to succeed, which means tonight may be its last chance to make good.

Consider this my plea to you: you should really watch Lone Star. I'd hate to see it get pulled when the show has so much potential, so here are four reasons why I think you should tune in:

  1. Its storyline is unlike anything else on TV right now. Just think about how many cop shows, procedural dramas, and ensemble comedies are out there. Yet, how many series do you know that center on a con-man? Yes, we've seen similar stuff on the big screen (Catch Me If You Can immediately comes to mind), but it feels fresh on TV.
  2. Despite its con-artist set-up, it features a surprising amount of heart. When you have a character faking his way to innocent people's cash, it isn't easy to make him likable; however, Lone Star's main guy Bob Allen actually has a conscience. He feels bad about his trickery, truly loves both his wife and girlfriend, and really just wants to come clean. Add in his strained relationship with his father, and it's not just a show about money; it's about Bob maintaining relationships with the people he loves.
  3. Two more reasons when you read more

Dreamy James Wolk Warns Women About Men

In the new Fall show Lone Star (on Fox, Monday 9/8C), rising heartthrob James Wolk stars as a charming con man juggling a chilled-out girlfriend and a high-maintenance wife.

In the new Fall show Lone Star (on Fox, Monday 9/8C), rising heartthrob James Wolk stars as a charming con man juggling a chilled-out girlfriend and a high-maintenance wife. In this video, James keeps things simple with straightforward love advice for women, including: feed your man, get him to dance with you at parties, and dump him if he doesn't buy you flowers. The broad advice isn't groundbreaking, but James Wolk's cuteness makes up for that. Sadly his new show's already facing cancellation rumors, but we still love him. Do you?

Buzz In: What Did You Think of the New Monday Night Shows?

Like football season, Fall TV has kicked off!

Like football season, Fall TV has kicked off! The hype machines have been in full swing to promote new shows, and they got to prove themselves last night as several new series premiered, including The Event, Hawaii 5-0, Lone Star, and Chase.

I had a sneak peek at the pilots and gave you my advice — in fact, three out of the four shows I just mentioned were among my top five to watch. But now that you've had a chance to see them for yourselves, what did you think? Are you addicted to The Event yet? Have a crush on Lone Star's James Wolk or Hawaii Five-0's Alex O'Loughlin? TV Tonight: Fall TV Takes Off With New and Returning Shows!

Fall TV has been slowly trickling in over the past two weeks, but tonight it turns things up full blast with an onslaught of returning shows and new soon-to-be favorites!

Fall TV has been slowly trickling in over the past two weeks, but tonight it turns things up full blast with an onslaught of returning shows and new soon-to-be favorites! Let's break it down: ABC's Dancing With the Stars comes back with a fresh cast followed by Castle, NBC will reveal last season's cliffhanger (Chuck's mom!) on Chuck, and we'll see how the romance between Cuddy and House is working out on FOX's House. Plus, there's How I Met Your Mother's premiere with Rachel Bilson.

As if that wasn't enough to keep you busy, there's also added competition, as the networks unveil new programming. Three of my five Fall must sees bow this evening, including CBS's Hawaii Five-0, NBC's The Event, and FOX's Lone Star with dreamy heartthrob James Wolk. They'll be accompanied by fellow newbies Mike & Molly and Chase (featuring a brand-new kickass female character).

Whew! I know it's going to be hard to keep track of everything — especially with so many shows competing in the same time slots — so make sure to download my official TV calendar to keep it all straight (my head is practically spinning already!). What will you watch tonight?
