6 Reasons Why Life Unexpected Shouldn't End

The following excerpt was written by ShaynaLeah on OnSugar blog Life Forward.

The following excerpt was written by ShaynaLeah on OnSugar blog Life Forward.

I've never felt the need to campaign particularly hard for a television show to be saved (though I was pretty bummed when Moonlight was canceled as a casualty of the 2008 writers' strike), but today's rumor that Life Unexpected may not be picked up for another season has me stricken for a whole slew of reasons (and only one is that its cast includes the adorable Shaun Sipos, formerly of the ill-fated "new" Melrose Place).

The top six reasons to watch the free episodes online to catch up and start watching Life Unexpected on Tuesdays on the CW:

  1. The storyline — which centers around teenage Lux (Britt Robertson) reconnecting with her birth parents who gave her up because they themselves were teens — is a different look at the American family, as well as the epilogue of the choices that pregnant teenagers face without being preachy.
  2. The dialogue between parents Cate (Shiri Appleby), who is notoriously uptight and insecure, and Baze (Kristoffer Polaha), who is just as notorious for being laid back to the point of sloth, is smart and hysterically funny.
  3. While there are plenty of television shows that trot out tired love triangles (the married man and his secretary, the man who falls for his brother's wife, etc.), watching Cate decide whether to marry Ryan (Kerr Smith), her boyfriend and co-anchor on a morning radio show, after Lux and Baze re-enter her life for the first time since she was 17 is, well, interesting. There is no clear "right" answer which makes me want to keep watching the show to see what will happen next as the layers of each character are explored. Laid back Baze has some really great points, but Ryan has always been a good guy — though Cate recently found out that while she was having cold feet, Ryan had his own doubts before their wedding.

No More Episode Orders For Life Unexpected

According to insiders, the CW won't be picking up additional episodes of the drama Life Unexpected.

According to insiders, the CW won't be picking up additional episodes of the drama Life Unexpected. An adaptation of The Secret Circle, the book series by The Vampire Diaries author L.J. Smith, is rumored to serve as its midseason replacement. Even though many of you have supported LUX, the show has fallen victim to weak ratings. The network isn't using the word "canceled" just yet, but unless LUX starts nabbing more viewers, it's finished. Start saying your goodbyes now in the comments.

Life Unexpected Meets One Tree Hill in Crossover Photos!

Life Unexpected is about to be invaded — by its Tuesday night lineup neighbor One Tree Hill!

Life Unexpected is about to be invaded — by its Tuesday night lineup neighbor One Tree Hill! On tonight's episode, two characters from OTH, Haley and Mia, pay a visit to Portland for a music festival put on by the radio station. As you can see, Haley and Cate will probably be doing some bonding (over motherhood? Having it all?) while Haley and Mia also perform at the festival. They're not the only fun guest stars that week on Life Unexpected, either: real-life musicians Sarah McLachlan and Ben Lee also appear for some onstage time.

Life Unexpected and One Tree Hill Return Tonight

Networks are slowly rolling out new Fall TV episodes, but The CW has already kicked things into high gear.

Networks are slowly rolling out new Fall TV episodes, but The CW has already kicked things into high gear. Tonight, the fun continues with returning favorites Life Unexpected and One Tree Hill. Both series were on the chopping block last season, so they'll need fans to show the love. I'm firmly on board the LUX train, and I'll definitely be tuning in tonight after this sneak peek. I'm a little more on the fence regarding OTH, but you all gave me so many great reasons to watch, I may just have to revisit the long-running show.

First Look: Life Unexpected Season 2

The CW's Life Unexpected fought the good fight to get a second season, and I'm giving you die-hard fans your first peek.

The CW's Life Unexpected fought the good fight to get a second season, and I'm giving you die-hard fans your first peek. Just because Cate and Ryan are married now, don't expect the drama to end: Baze ends up in the hospital, Cate gets fired, and Lux gets a flirty look from a new suitor (hint: it's Melrose Place's Shaun Sipos). The real question is: can Life Unexpected pick up enough steam to hang on to its place in the CW lineup?

Why Life Unexpected Should Be Renewed: Buzz Fans Speak

The CW scored with midseason family drama Life Unexpected, and Buzz readers in particular have championed the show throughout its run.

The CW scored with midseason family drama Life Unexpected, and Buzz readers in particular have championed the show throughout its run. Now that the season finale has aired, I asked you to tell me why you thought Life Unexpected deserved a second season, and boy, did you guys have a lot to say! Check out some great arguments from Buzz readers:

  • "LUX inspires us to be real and honest and accept life. I was especially moved by episode 1.12; this show reminds us that life isn't glamorous sometimes, that it can be hard and hurtful, but that the unexpected goodness makes it all worthwhile. I personally find that repeated concept to be a message of great merit and therefore deserving of an hour of my time." — fineapple13
  • "Life Unexpected is the only show of its kind that airs right now. It's fresh, funny and genuinely awesome. The cast is very talented and it's obvious that they get on well. This show is really different for the other teenage shows, like Gossip Girl or 90210 with rich kids getting in trouble, it explores another dimension. It's different, it's great, it's beautiful and it's deserves a second season for us to continue watching Lux, Cate and Baze grow up and make real stupid and funny mistakes." — ohmaryg
  • "Because this show is great on different levels and because I want to see Kate and Baze together." — lilibooh

Tell Me Why Life Unexpected Should Get a Second Season

Life Unexpected wrapped its debut season last night, ending with a bang as Cate and Ryan finally tied the knot.

Life Unexpected wrapped its debut season last night, ending with a bang as Cate and Ryan finally tied the knot. The show has a well-rounded, watchable cast, and though sometimes it's a little too sweet for its own good, I certainly don't think it deserves to be on the chopping block like some other shows.

But alas, I'm having flashbacks to last Spring when Privileged was in danger, and eventually canceled. Maybe it's just not in the cards for the more wholesome family-type shows to last among the ranks of Vampire Diaries and Gossip Girl. Normally, this is where I'd give you my own reasons why The CW should save the show, but I know there's a lot of Life Unexpected fans out there. So sound off: why do you think the show deserves a second season?
