Lena Dunham Gets a Graduation "Redo"

Lena Dunham received a Medal of Distinction from Barnard College in NYC yesterday.

Lena Dunham received a Medal of Distinction from Barnard College in NYC yesterday. She accepted the award alongside two other important individuals: Elizabeth Diller, the architect for the Big Apple's famed High Line, and Jimmie Briggs, a journalist and human rights activist. Lena tweeted her excitement about the event, writing, "I'm a guest at Barnard College graduation today. At my own graduation I sobbed, hit my mother and fell asleep, so pretty psyched for a redo." Afterward, Lena accompanied her boyfriend, Fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff, to the studio to watch him record a track and Instagrammed the adventure, writing, "Take your girlfriend to work night."

Lena wasn't the only star who made a stop by a college graduation over the past week — Michelle Obama gave the commencement speech at Bowie State University on Friday while her husband, Barack Obama, spoke at Morehouse College on Sunday.

Hannah Horvath on How to Survive Your 20s

Happy birthday, Lena Dunham!

Happy birthday, Lena Dunham! The actress, filmmaker, and writer turns 27 today, closing out another highly successful year of her relatively young life. The creator and star of the Golden Globe Award-winning HBO show Girls signed a $3.5 million book deal last year, and she uses her popularity for good, participating in political ads last election and fundraising for mental health causes. Lena has also shown her refreshingly fearless and bare-it-all personality, literally baring it all in her countless nude and sex scenes as Hannah Horvath on Girls and speaking out about body image and her struggles with obsessive compulsive disorder. Both Lena and her alter ego Hannah have a lot to say on what it's like being a 20-something woman in today's world. So we're looking at some of Hannah's best moments and lines to illustrate how to survive your 20s with some cupcakes, dancing, and self-reflection.

The other Girls cast members have been hard at work on the new season as well. Lena shot scenes with Allison Williams last week while wearing colorful frocks and a "birthday b*tch" hat, perhaps a nod to a special celebration in an upcoming episode.

In addition to working on the series, Lena's been busy mixing in with New York's glittering party scene, attending the Time 100 Gala last week and presenting at the 2013 Actors Fund's annual gala on Monday. Lena Dunham and Allison Williams enjoyed some downtime on the set of Girls in NYC yesterday. Lena took a phone call between takes, while Allison grabbed a beverage and laughed with the crew. The girls seem to be continuing their filming from earlier this week, when they were spotted on the Manhattan set in the same outfits. Lena sported the printed bubble dress with a "Birthday B*tch" trucker hat, which could foretell a special celebration for her character, Hannah Horvath, in the show's third season.

Lena has had much to celebrate herself, as she was recently named one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people in the world. She partied with fellow honorees Claire Danes, Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon, and Frank Ocean at the Time 100 Gala in NYC earlier this week and shared that her father was the first person she called with the exciting news.

Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon kept the party going at the Time 100 Gala in NYC last night.

Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon kept the party going at the Time 100 Gala in NYC last night. The two friends, who were named two of the magazine's 100 most influential people in the world this year, were joined by Justin's wife, a Tom Ford-clad Jessica Biel, and a Lanvin-wearing Claire Danes. Also out were honorees Lena Dunham and Vice President Joe Biden, who took the chance to work the room of Hollywood stars. Other guests included Amy Poehler, Steven Spielberg, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Christina Aguilera, who performed at the event and hobnobbed with Lena on the red carpet.

Inside the bash, the stars wasted no time celebrating the honorees. Justin and Jimmy danced around the room and goofed off with Amy and musician Frank Ocean. Lena commented on getting on the Time 100 list, saying that the first person she told about being on the list was her father. She said, "I called my dad because he was a layout editor at Time in the 1970s, so I was super psyched, and I wanted to tell him that I was making good in his former institution. I heard there was a drinks cart when he worked there." Meanwhile, Daniel, who picked up the best actor award at this year's Oscars, commented that he is "more than mildly astonished" that he landed on the list.
