Rumors of a prequel to Lara Croft: Tomb Raider have been circulating for some time now, and this week the news was confirmed. Angelina Jolie originated the role of the badass archaeologist, but who could take over as a younger version of the heroine? Megan Fox's name has been tossed out for her resemblance to Jolie, but we've got our own ideas; check 'em out!
From Felicity to Mr. Big's ex-wife, you're sure to recognize some familiar faces popping up in new places on the Fall TV lineup. A few of our favorite Friends are returning in January, while Captain Kirk, Lost-ies, and more are already back on the small screen. Check out the case files on these favorites!
Word on the street is the next Tomb Raider movie will be a prequel in which Lara Croft's origin story is revealed. Producer Dan Lin is all kinds of excited for the next movie, saying this one will be "more realistic" than past movies. He continued, "I would say it's like Terminator — character-driven action. I think for me the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action-oriented. I wanted to have action, but with character." And Angelina Jolie will not be reprising her role, since the origin story will require a young Lara Croft.
There were some mixed feelings about this project initially, but now that it sounds like it'll be a different take on the role (so, not a straight remake of stuff Jolie's already done), are you any more sold on it? What young actress do you think could step into the butt-kicking boots of a younger Lara Croft?
Back before Angelina Jolie was one half of a power couple with Brad Pitt, she was starring in the video game-based Lara Croft: Tomb Raider film franchise. I'm always down for a female lead to kick some arse, but to be honest, I never really got around to watching these movies.
Now rumors are swirling that Warner Bros. would like to relaunch the franchise — complete with casting a new female lead.
What do you think about the Lara Croft character? Were you into the movies with Angelina Jolie? Are you interested in a reboot of the female-driven action franchise? Or not so much?
