As we come to the close of another year, I've been counting down the best in entertainment from over the past 12 months. But let's not forget that we're also celebrating the end of the decade, so you know what that means — a recap of the top music, movies, and TV from 2000-2009! There have been so many creative, smart, and fun choices to keep me busy that it's hard to decide which ones deserve top honors. So beginning with films, here are my favorites, in no particular order. (If you don't agree — or if you'd like to submit your own top five, 10, or 20 — you can do so in the Buzz Best of the Decade Group)!
Buzz In: Are You Interested in Seeing Another Kill Bill?
Last week, Quentin Tarantino stoked the fire of a Kill Bill sequel when he mentioned that he'd like to start working on the third installment in the next few years.
Now he's talking more details, specifically timeline: Tarantino wants to wait until ten years after the last film ended to pick up on the story of Uma Thurman's character Beatrix Kiddo (AKA The Bride) and her daughter B.B.
It's kind of a cool concept — B.B. will be a teenager, and the idea is that Beatrix and her child have had a decade of calm, until this third film, when, clearly swords, snakes, and Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Techniques will be pulled out. I'm not totally psyched that we'll have to wait until 2014 to see the film, but Tarantino's gonna do what Tarantino's gonna do. In the meantime, what do you think — are you still interested in the Kill Bill franchise and eager to revisit the bloody story? Do you have hopes for the film or would you rather Tarantino stick with new stuff?
Kill Bill I and II: The One Minute Version
Oh, man. Are you trying to tell me I spent over five hours watching Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill parts one and two when I could have gotten the whole story in one minute? I always find out stuff too late.
Parrot Whistles Kill Bill Theme Song
This genius parrot has somehow picked up the haunting and eerie Kill Bill theme song from Quentin Tarantino's film starring Uma Thurman. So instead of hearing cussing and fart noises, this feathered bird is around film buffs! So freaking cool. I love him.
What's Buzzworthy: Action Movies
As I mentioned last week when I challenged you to Buzzworthy your favorite action movies, summertime feels like the best season to grab the popcorn, find some air-conditioning and get swept away by the blockbustery goodness of a high-octane flick. I can't wait to update my Netflix queue, since I forgot all about some of these oldies but greats.
The Rock
One of my personal favorites, Linda McP has this to say about her pick: "Sean Connery, Nicholas Cage, and Ed Harris are perfectly cast in this film about domestic terrorism (all of San Francisco is held hostage by a deranged war hero played by Harris). Parts of the film are unrealistic, for sure, but the interplay between and among the characters makes this film a worthwhile pick. Connery just gets better as he ages!"
Kill Bill, Volume I
Another favorite of mine, this was chosen by tdamji who writes, "It's great to see a woman in a starring role in an action movie. There don't seem to be very many like that. Lucy Liu is great in this, as is Uma Thurman."
