Movie Preview: Gerard Butler, Hilary Swank in P.S. I Love You

Back when this movie was a part of my tearjerker movies Fall Movie Preview post, there was no trailer available, but I was looking forward to seeing what the tone of this movie would be. Now, judging from the newly released trailer, it looks a little sappy, but also cute and endearing — if you're in that kind of mood. Plus, I recently learned that Swank injured herself during a scene in which Gerard Butler is stripping, and somehow that makes me like the movie more.

Opening December 21, the movie is based on a novel and stars Hilary Swank as Holly, a young widow who discovers that her husband wrote out messages for her just before he died. Some of the notes include unusual requests, and before long, Holly and her girlfriends (played by Lisa Kudrow and Gina Gershon, pictured) are going on a string of adventures that Holly's late husband planned for her.

I think the best parts of the trailer feature Lisa Kudrow's character's ill-fated attempts to pick up men (well, those moments and Jeffrey Dean Morgan's extremely adorable smile are my favorite parts), but you can see what you think of the trailer yourself if you read more

I Will Be Watching the Watchmen

300 director Zack Snyder's next project is Watchmen, an adaptation of the 1980s comic book series by Alan Moore. For many weeks there have been rumors going around about who, exactly, we'd be watching in Watchmen (Keanu Reeves? Jude Law?) and now that the cast has been finalized, I am even more excited for this project. Patrick Wilson! Billy Crudup! Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who I love! This is fantastic. Variety has details:

"Watchmen" has taken decades to get off the ground. Based on Alan Moore's 1980s comicbook series, the adaptation will be set in an alternate 1985 with plenty of Cold War overtones.

Crudup will play the fatalistic Dr. Manhattan, a role Keanu Reeves once eyed, while Wilson will portray Night Owl, a rich kid interested in birds. Morgan has been cast as the Comedian, a Vietnam vet who's a member of the Minutemen. [Jackie Earle] Haley and [Malin] Akerman round out the cast as Rorschach, a vigilante, and Silk Spectre, the key femme role.

Malin Akerman is the lone female so far who gets to hang out with all the boys after her Ben Stiller comedy The Heartbreak Kid opens this fall. Lucky lady.

Why I Love ... Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Dear Hollywood: Could you please stop killing Jeffrey Dean Morgan?

Dear Hollywood: Could you please stop killing Jeffrey Dean Morgan?

His Judah Botwin on "Weeds" keeled over before the show even started, widowing Mary-Louise Parker's character and leaving us with only sun-dappled flashbacks. Then he wooed "Grey's Anatomy" intern Izzie — and me, and the female half of America — as heart patient Denny Duquette, only to die and leave me pining. And his turn on "Supernatural" ended early this season, when that show offed him too.

It's a shame, because I could watch the scruffy, husky-voiced Morgan all day long. He was a charmer as Denny and a cool dad as Judah — and frankly, it's not often I can find a guy sexy as both a dad and a boyfriend, so clearly Morgan's got a special talent. But mostly I like the sly smile he gives his characters, like he's laughing at some secret that he can't wait to spill.
