Liam went to the event without fiancée Miley Cyrus, who was busy attending a party for the Mario Testino exhibit at an LA gallery. Miley has had a busy weekend attending events and working on her new album. She tweeted earlier this weekend, "Making this record on top of Oscar weekend and all of fashion week is CRAY! Need a day of silence. Migraine. "

Diane Kruger graced the red carpet at the closing ceremonies of the Cannes Film Festival today. She was among the panel of jurors that presented director Michael Haneke's Amour with this year's Palme d’Or, the competition's top prize. Diane kept with her black-and-white theme and, for her final red-carpet appearance, she chose a formal Christian Dior ball gown. She complemented the look with minimal jewelry and showed no signs of the $45,000 engagement-gift necklace Joshua Jackson reportedly purchased for her during their stay in France.

Alec Baldwin and his fiancée, Hilaria Thomas, joined Diane, Adrien Brody, Ewan McGregor, and Jean Dujardin at a screening of Thérèse Desqueyroux, the festival's final event. There was so much action on the Oscars red carpet and during the Billy Crystal-hosted show. Backstage and in the audience, though, is where the fun really went down. Angelina Jolie took a last-minute chance to rehearse her presenter's lines ahead of handing out the best screenplay awards. George Clooney and Stacy Keibler chatted with his Descendants' costars Judy Greer and Shailene Woodley, and Gwyneth Paltrow hung out by the curtains in her chic Tom Ford. The Artist's Jean Dujardin has reached the height of a Hollywood career, winning for best actor tonight at the Oscars! But before international movie fame, he was a TV star in French. From 1999 to 2003, he was on Un Gars, une Fille (A Girl, a Guy), alongside his future wife, Alexandra Lamy. The pair, who posed side by side on the red carpet tonight, were costars on the humorous series about an everyday relationship. Although they met on set, they didn't marry until 2009, bringing together their children from previous relationships. Jean has two sons and she has a daughter. Michelle Williams was the first presenter at this evening's SAG Awards, handing the outstanding supporting actor statue to Christopher Plummer from Beginners. Octavia Spencer took home the corresponding statue for her work in The Help.



On the TV end, Alec Baldwin squealed with delight when he was named best actor in a comedic series, and an especially stunned Betty White, from Hot in Cleveland, dedicated her prize to her leading ladies Wendie Malick, Valerie Bertinelli, and Jane Leeves. The child actors from Modern Family, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, and Nolan Gould, got a chance to take the podium when their series won outstanding cast in a comedy. Miniseries accolades went to two absent stars, Kate Winslet for Mildred Pierce and Paul Giamatti for Too Big to Fail.



Bridesmaids' Maya Rudolph, Kristin Wiig, and Melissa McCarthy brought some comedic relief when onstage introducing their film as a contender in the best ensemble category. The trio came to the stage armed with vodka, beer, and champagne, and introduced a drinking game based around the word "Scorsese." Jessica Lange then followed up on her Golden Globes win with another victory in the category of best dramatic actress on a TV series for American Horror Story. Steve Buscemi won an Actor for his leading role on HBO's Boardwalk Empire. TV ensemble in a drama honors went to Steve's whole cast, giving him an additional opportunity to invoke his producer Martin Scorsese's name as an excuse for a drink.



There was a slight upset in the best actor in a film category — The Artist's Jean Dujardin beat out Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Demián Bichir, and George Clooney. Viola Davis claimed the best female actor in a motion picture for The Help, and beamed from the stage in her Marchesa gown. Further acclaim went to the cast of Viola's movie, with their Actor statues being handed off by none other than Brad Pitt. There was a great deal for the Weinstein Company to celebrate after the SAG Awards in LA last night. They hosted a bash, along with Dewar's, at the Chateau Marmont honoring this year's crop of films, including The Iron Lady, The Artist, and My Week With Marilyn. The star of the latter film, Michelle Williams, took home a statue at the recent Golden Globe Awards, but yesterday, it was The Artist's Jean Dujardin who was onstage accepting an honor. Michelle attended the afterparty nonetheless, still decked out in her red Valentino gown. She made the rounds chatting up Bérénice Bejo, while another of the evening's winners, Modern Family's Sofia Vergara, had a moment with Jean. It's been a good month for the French actor Jean Dujardin! He capped off what's already been an amazing award season run today with an Oscar nomination in the category of best actor for his performance in The Artist.
