Former Mad Men actor Jared Harris is engaged to Allegra Riggio, and he proposed with a very unique-looking ring. Allegra posted a Vine video of the engagement ring, designed by Erica Courtney, which has a heart-shaped diamond. As we saw with Kate Middleton's sapphire stunner, sometimes the unique celebrity rings can inspire new trends — so maybe heart-shaped rings will be the next big thing. I have to admit, it harkens back to my younger days getting jewelry from those toy vending machines at the grocery store . . . in a good way. What do you think of the unusually designed sparkler?
Lily Collins Hunts Demons in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Trailer
The trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones rethinks the classic image of angels and gives them a modern makeover. Lily Collins (Mirror Mirror) stars as Clary Fray, the heroine of the movie based on the bestselling book. In the wake of her mother's (Lena Headey) disappearance, Clary is confronted with a harsh truth: like her ancestors before her, she's half-human and half-angel, a combination known as a Shadowhunter. Her job is to protect the human race from demons that threaten the planet. Understandably, she's not thrilled about it, especially when her new Shadowhunter ally Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower) introduces her to the Downworld, a mysterious and deadly place located below her home of New York City.
First her mom goes missing, then she finds out her sole purpose in life is to fight terrifying demons? That's a bummer. Though if anyone can handle it, I'd peg Lily Collins for a fighter. This is just the first chapter in Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series, so if it's any good, you can bet on seeing more cities (like those made of ashes, glass, and fallen angels) on the big screen as well. It opens Aug. 23, and you can watch the trailer after the jump.
Mad Men's Jared Harris Says He Would Have an Affair With John Slattery If He Could
Jared Harris plays the British contingent of Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce on Mad Men, which finally returns for a fifth season this Sunday. Harris chatted with a few reporters today to talk about what it's like coming back after such a long break, and even though he has to be cagey about the specifics of season five, he did share how he's like his character Lane Pryce. He also revealed which of his costars he spent downtime with in the off-season, and why he's being so tight-lipped about the show.
Can you talk about which other characters we'll see Lane having scenes with this season?
Jared Harris: All I can say is I have a good season. I'm looking forward to it, I'm looking forward to it unfolding. They really are very vigilant about us not saying who we have scenes with, and given that Matt Weiner is sitting not too far from me, if I say something and piss him off, I don't know what he'll do to me next season.
Were there any costars you missed the most?
JH: Most of my stuff is normally with Vinny (Kartheiser) and Christina (Hendricks) and with Jon (Hamm). I miss them all. I play poker, and Vinny and I get together and play poker in the off season. Rich Sommers is a lovely guy, he's very funny, and there's a great camaraderie amongst everybody, and that is one of the things I looked forward to going back to when I came back. But if I could have any affair with any of them, it would be John Slattery.
Which characteristics of Lane's do you identify with, and which do you not?
JH: For me, half of my reference of Lane is based on my stepfather, Rex Harrison. He's one of the models for the character in my mind. In terms of what am I not like, I haven't got his fastidiousness of dressing. I'm enjoying it. I enjoy that part of performing the character and as a requirement for showing up to do things for Mad Men, you can't show up in a pair of dirty jeans and a t-shirt. So I enjoy that. I enjoy the dressing up part, but I don't have that in my own personal life. I'm a little more of a slob.

Mad Men Casting: Harris and Kartheiser Land Movie Roles
Things may be looking down for Lane Pryce and Pete Campbell on Mad Men, but the careers of their real-life alter egos are definitely on the upswing!

Jared Harris has signed on for the highly coveted role of villain Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2, a part that was previously rumored for big names like Daniel Day-Lewis and Brad Pitt. While it's surprising to see the lesser-known Harris beat out such heavyweights, can't you see him in the sinister part?
As for Vincent Kartheiser, he's joining the cast of the Amanda Seyfried-Justin Timberlake sci-fi thriller (previously titled I'm.mortal). But here's the hitch: he'll be playing Seyfried's father. It seems strange to picture Kartheiser as an older dad, although keep in mind that the story centers on a society where no one ages past 25, so perhaps it's not as odd after all.
