Something Borrowed

In this romantic comedy, Ginnifer Goodwin plays Rachel, an unhappily single 30-year-old attorney, who has always been overshadowed by her obnoxious best friend Darcy (Kate Hudson). After one too many birthday drinks, Rachel reveals to Darcy's fiancé Dex (Colin Egglesfield) that she harbored a secret crush on him throughout their law school years, and the pair end up in bed together. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, Rachel and Dex continue their secret relationship. The film feels like a teenage soap opera, but John Krasinski provides some laughs as Rachel's confidante. The DVD extras include a gag reel and deleted scenes.

Jane Eyre

In this adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's classic book, Mia Wasikowska stars as Jane Eyre, a woman who becomes a governess at Thornfield Hall after spending a hard childhood in boarding school. Once at Thornfield, Jane begins to notice mysterious events and catches the eye of its owner, Edward Rochester (Michael Fassbender). The two begin a relationship, but the secrets that emerge prove too much for Jane to handle. The relationship between Jane and Edward could have been developed a bit more, but the film nevertheless manages to capture the novel's gothic vibe. DVD extras include deleted scenes and commentary from the director.

Michael Fassbender Talks "Awkward" Sex Scenes and Not Wanting to Get a "Free Feel"

Jane Eyre stars Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska posed for photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino in the April issue of W, which will be on newsstands March 22.

Jane Eyre stars Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska posed for photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino in the April issue of W, which will be on newsstands March 22. The duo were also together last week in NYC for the East Coast premiere of their movie, which features Mia tackling the iconic title role. Michael, who recently shared with us about his newfound sex symbol status, has the task of portraying Charlotte Brontë's elsuive Mr. Rochester. He told the magazine, though, that he felt too young to play the part but was game to tackle the sex scenes. Mia also weighed in about her start in Hollywood. They said:

  • Michael on sex vs. death scenes: "Sex scenes can be quite awkward. As a guy, the first thing you want to do is make sure you’re not taking advantage. You don’t want the girl to feel like you’re getting a free feel or something. I try to make a fool of myself in one way or another to lighten the mood and then just go for it, because you don’t want to be doing take after take. As for dying — to not play like you’re dying is the way to go when you’re dying in a movie. I think it’s best to look like you’re about to fall asleep."
  • Mia on her start in acting: "When I decided to pursue acting at 15, I heard that you had to have an agent to do film and television, so I did a Google search on acting agencies in Sydney. I hounded one to take me on and started auditioning."
  • Michael on playing Mr. Rochester: "I’m probably 10 years too young for Rochester, so I went for a Byronic sort of hero. I didn’t read Jane Eyre in school, but my mother and sister were always talking about it, and that was a big reason why I did it. I didn’t have a preconceived idea of Rochester — I just saw him as encapsulating so many interesting elements: a shady past, intelligent, self-destructive, destructive, passionate. And he has a terrible secret. I’m curious to see what my mother and sister think of my Rochester."

An Update on Jane Eyre's Paisleys

Have you seen Jane Eyre yet?

Have you seen Jane Eyre yet? I escaped for a few hours this weekend to take in a matinee of the historical romance, and it was full of decorating eye candy. In this scene, my eye was first drawn to the damask upholstery in this carriage, but it soon wandered to the paisley pattern on Jane's shawl.
Paisley is infinitely adaptable, and many of the modern interpretations of the pattern feature a single teardrop-shaped swoop on a textile or pillow. Check out some fun paisley designs below.

Jane Eyre: Needs More Fire

Multiple miniseries and movies have taken on Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, so is another adaptation of the classic novel really necessary?

Multiple miniseries and movies have taken on Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre, so is another adaptation of the classic novel really necessary? Perhaps not, but director Cary Fukunaga's beautifully shot retelling is still a worthy addition to the previous versions of the tale. It stays loyal to Bronte's material while retaining the book's gothic soul.

Mia Wasikowska stars as the literary heroine, a governess at a sprawling but dreary estate called Thornfield Hall. The film begins when a distraught Jane flees Thornfield and is taken in by clergyman St. John Rivers (Jaime Bell). Though Jane won't tell John about her past or where she comes from, the audience sees all of it via flashbacks, beginning with Jane's difficult childhood under the watch of her cold-hearted aunt (Sally Hawkins). Fed up with Jane, the aunt sends her away to the strict Lowood charity school, where Jane grows up with little human connection. Once she's old enough, she lands the job at Thornfield under the aloof Edward Rochester (Michael Fassbender) and mysterious events begin to occur in the house. It's a lot of ground for the film to cover, but by encapsulating Bronte's story, we get more insight into Jane, instead of focusing on her relationship with Mr. Rochester. The downside is that their romance could have benefited from the extra attention and development.

Find out why it's worth seeing after the jump.

Mia Wasikowska tackles the title role of Jane Eyre in Cary Fukunaga's new take on the classic tale, which arrives in theaters today. Cary mentioned that he thought Mia was just right for the role. Mia confessed that she was pretty happy to continue her streak of hot leading men with costar Michael Fassbender, coming off a stint with Mark Ruffalo in The Kids Are All Right — there are even more good looks in store for Mia with a new part opposite Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy in The Wettest County in the World!

Video: Hot Jane Eyre Director Cary Fukunaga on the Story's Timeless Themes

Director Cary Fukunaga looked sharp last night at the NYC premiere of Jane Eyre alongside the stars of the film Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender.

Director Cary Fukunaga looked sharp last night at the NYC premiere of Jane Eyre alongside the stars of the film Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender. Earlier this month, the Sin Nombre director stopped by San Francisco, where I chatted with him about his latest movie, a darker take on the Charlotte Brontë novel. Cary says the classic tale has elements that will always be universal, including a woman who will not disrespect herself in the name of love. Find out how he thinks Mia's performance stacks up to past Jane Eyres, why he thinks the movie needs to be made again in 2011, and what historical details you should watch out for when you watch Jane Eyre, out Friday. Jane Eyre's Michael Fassbender Is OK With Being a Sex Symbol and Wearing Loincloths

Michael Fassbender will be back on the big screen tomorrow playing Mr. Rochester in Cary Fukunaga's adaptation of Jane Eyre.

Michael Fassbender will be back on the big screen tomorrow playing Mr. Rochester in Cary Fukunaga's adaptation of Jane Eyre. Cary said he cast Michael since there aren't many ladies in the world not excited about Michael, but the actor's rumored real-life love, Zoe Kravitz, was the lucky one by his side at last night's NYC premiere of the film. Michael spoke to us about his sudden transformation into a sex symbol, also saying that it was indeed intimidating tackling the iconic role of Charlotte Brontë's fictional leading man.
