Do You Want to See James Spader on The Office Full Time?

Apparently James Spader's guest appearance left a lasting impression on Dunder Mifflin: he's in negotiations to join The Office full time. Spader was one of the many guest stars who interviewed for Michael Scott's job in the season finale, but it sounds like his character is going for something even bigger than regional manager of the Scranton Branch. Spader's Robert California is likely to take over the CEO position from Kathy Bates's Jo, but Spader will appear on the show more often than Bates did.

Nothing has been finalized yet, but I'm all for seeing Spader in the Dunder Mifflin mix. He was definitely one of the funniest among the guest stars, and just quirky enough to fit right in with the rest of the crew. The real question is who will be stepping in to take over for Michael, as the position will be left unfilled even if Spader joins the cast. What's your take — do you want to see Spader on The Office as a full-timer?

What Was the Biggest Surprise of the Emmys?

What a night! There were some expected wins, like America Ferrera winning for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy and "The Sopranos" taking home the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. But then there were some major surprises, too. I found these things to be most startling wins of the 2007 Primetime Emmy Awards:

James Spader — Seriously?! I'm slightly surprised Spader beat out Hugh Laurie, but most of all, how is it possible he beat out James Gandolfini in the final season of "The Sopranos"?

Jaime Pressly — I had the toughest time figuring out who might win in this category because, between Elizabeth Perkins, Vanessa Williams and Jenna Fischer the talent was so tremendous. I just didn't think Pressly would take this one.

Sally Field — Again, the competition in Field's category was very strong (Edie Falco and Kyra Sedgwick?), and this was Field's first season on a new show, so I never truly expected her to take the award.

Ricky Gervais — Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for Gervais because I think he's a genius, but I didn't realize the voters would really choose him, considering some of the mainstream hits that Gervais was up against (Sheen of "Two and a Half Men" and the previous voters' favorite Tony Shalhoub).

"30 Rock" — Wow, did I not see this coming at all! This scrappy young NBC series took a little while to find its footing, and up against other beloved series like "Entourage" and even "Ugly Betty," I figured it wouldn't be the voters' favorite.

Big Changes Coming for "Boston Legal"

The offices of Crane Pool & Schmidt are going to look quite different come fall.

The offices of Crane Pool & Schmidt are going to look quite different come fall. Several "Boston Legal" cast members won't be returning to the show, while two new actors are joining the cast and a third will become a series regular.

Don't worry: William Shatner, James Spader and Candace Bergen aren't going anywhere. But Julie Bowen, Mark Valley, Rene Auberjonois and Constance Zimmer aren't so lucky; they weren't given the option to renew their contracts in an effort to keep the show fresh, according to David E. Kelley Productions.

Meanwhile, John Larroquette will be joining the cast to play a senior partner from the firm's New York office who transfers to Boston. Tara Summers (Abby from "Dirt") will play a junior partner at the firm, and Christian Clemenson will become a series regular, ensuring more screen time for his character, Jerry "Hands" Espenson.

I'm not a regular enough watcher of "Boston Legal" to know how much these changes will affect the show. Will the departures matter? Or is the show really a Spader/Shatner/Bergen affair?

The Results Are In: Recast Pretty In Pink

Many of the recast lists this week featured actors who seem way too old to play the high school kids in Pretty in Pink.

Many of the recast lists this week featured actors who seem way too old to play the high school kids in Pretty in Pink. Yet when I took a look at how old the original cast was, most of them had been out of high school (and college) for years already; James Spader, for instance, was 26. Thus, I went with a recast list full of actors who at least look like they could be in high school... more or less.

It seems like the most fun character to recast was the quirky Iona. I could easily see any number of funny women playing that awesome role, from WhiplashGirlchild and aras8218's pick of Lisa Kudrow to lem0n and conlaw2's Zooey Deschanel to Parker Posey, chosen by brazilnut and lslybnks. I also liked joytothehurled's idea of Amy Adams for Andie. My favorite complete list, however, is from LaLaLaurie06. To see who she picked, and the new cast photo, read more
