Box Office: Saw 3D Cuts Through the Competition

Scary movies reigned supreme at the Halloween box office.

Scary movies reigned supreme at the Halloween box office. Newcomer Saw 3D came in at No. 1 with 22.5 million, followed by last week's champ, Paranormal Activity 2 which continued to spook audiences and took in $16.5 million. Saw 3D 's win isn't a complete victory, however; the opening is only the fifth-best in the seven-film franchise, leaving some critics to question if the series has lost momentum.

For those moviegoers who weren't looking for a fright, Red proved to be a viable alternative. It came in third with $10.8 million, while Jackass 3D and Hereafter finished out the top five with $8.4 million and $6.3 million respectively.

Box Office: Paranormal Activity 2 Scares Off Jackass

Audiences are already getting in Halloween spirit!

Audiences are already getting in Halloween spirit! The spooky sequel Paranormal Activity 2 earned the top spot at the box office over the weekend with $41.5 million (perhaps that's not so surprising since the majority of you said you'd see it). It beat last weekend's champ Jackass 3D, which fell to the No. 2 slot with $21.6 million. What's even more impressive: Paranormal Activity 2 set a new record for the biggest three-day opening ever for a horror film.

Red fell one spot to take third place with $15 million, while Matt Damon's Hereafter received a boost as the film expanded into more theaters to earn $12 million for fourth place. Rounding out the top five was The Social Network, which took in $7.3 million.

Box Office: Jackass 3D Catapults to Number One

Who better than to bring down the Social Network geeks than Johnny Knoxville and his band of misfits?

Who better than to bring down the Social Network geeks than Johnny Knoxville and his band of misfits? The majority of you were looking forward to seeing Jackass 3D in the theater and it showed in box office earnings: the film took in a staggering $50 million in its opening weekend, setting the record for highest October opening weekend ever. Fellow newcomer Red didn't even earn half that, but still got second place with $22.5 million.

Former champ The Social Network sank down to the third slot with $11 million, followed by Secretariat with $9.5 million. Katherine Heigl's Life As We Know It clung to a top five spot with $9.2 million.

Watch, Pass, or Rent: Jackass 3D

Johnny Knoxville and the boys are at it again this weekend with Jackass 3D.

Johnny Knoxville and the boys are at it again this weekend with Jackass 3D. That's right, if you weren't grossed out enough by the first two movies, now the action is all up in your face. (I hope you have a strong stomach.)

I have a love-hate relationship with the Jackass guys. While many of their antics make me gag, I did laugh at several stunts in the new trailer (you've got to admit that Bam Margera getting knocked by a giant hand is hilarious).

If you can believe it, it's been 10 years since the series first started airing on MTV, so I wonder if its original audience has outgrown the pranksters. Will you be heading to the theater this weekend, or will you opt to sit this one out?

Which October Movie Release Are You Most Excited About?

October means a couple of things in the movie world: we're one step closer to the bounty that comes with the holiday season, and the imminence of Halloween means there are plenty of spooky movies hitting theaters (I couldn't even fit 'em all into my poll).

Jackass 3D Trailer: More In-Your-Face Antics (Literally)

If you're still confused about why the latest installment of Step Up is showing in 3D, then here's another head scratcher for you: the trailer for Jackass 3D.

If you're still confused about why the latest installment of Step Up is showing in 3D, then here's another head scratcher for you: the trailer for Jackass 3D. Thankfully the preview is short on the crude humor and close-ups of welts and dislocated limbs that the Jackass crew is known for, though I'm sure all that can be found in the full-length feature.

Instead, the trailer focuses on more extreme activities like live action "duck hunting" and port-a-potty catapulting. If you prefer the low-key pranks, rest assured — there's still a guy in a gorilla suit freaking out some poor unsuspecting family members. Personally, I think I've seen enough of Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O to last me a lifetime, but will you shell out the extra bucks to see these dudes in 3D? Decide for yourself when you watch the video.
