Jim Carrey on Playing a Gay Character

"You had to put out of your mind your own sexual preference and just try to understand that you were loving another person who just happens to be a guy.

"You had to put out of your mind your own sexual preference and just try to understand that you were loving another person who just happens to be a guy. It wasn't about male or female, love is love."

Jim Carrey explains how he played Ewan McGregor's gay lover in I Love You Phillip Morris. He also says Ewan is a great kisser.

What's Your Thanksgiving Escape?

Out promoting his new movie I Love You Phillip Morris, Jim Carrey remembered Thanksgivings with his drink-loving grandparents.

"My grandfather was a major drunk, is it politically correct to say that? Okay, let's say he had a substance abuse problem. And my grandmother had one too! It was hilarious on a certain level but then they would corner my parents and make them feel like crap for about three hours . . . Just when my father was red-faced and ready to leave, I would turn around and start doing impressions of all of them."

His escape turned into a career, and though his grandparents are no longer around, he says not to worry. "I've got plenty of other drunken relatives. I like to sit in the kitchen with them, smoke cigarettes, and talk about people." That's one way of dealing with it, but most of us need an escape when confronting a dysfunctional family holiday.

Even if you get excited to see your family, functional or not, all-day interaction can test the best of us. Whether it's disappearing for 30 minutes or planning a night out with friends, how do you retreat from the Thanksgiving madness?

Jim Carrey Shares His Big-Screen Love With John Mayer

Jim Carrey was joined by friends, fans, and John Mayer last night for the NYC screening of I Love You Phillip Morris.

Jim Carrey was joined by friends, fans, and John Mayer last night for the NYC screening of I Love You Phillip Morris. Carrey has many things to be thankful for this holiday season with his long-awaited film finally opening Dec. 3. He'll also be celebrating his grandson Jackson's first Christmas — if Jim is on the hunt for the perfect present, LilSugar has great gift ideas for babies. Jim has been getting in the Winter-y spirit recently, shooting Mr. Popper's Penguins in the city. John, meanwhile, is on the East Coast following a quick trip to LA. He was linked to Kim Kardashian during another recent stay in the Big Apple, though it looks like she's moving right along in her search for a guy who can make her laugh, who may just be Gabriel Aubry.

2009 Sundance Spotlight: Adam, Humpday, I Love You Phillip Morris

While I won't be heading to the 2009 Sundance Film Festival this year, I will be sorting through the humongous pile of festival entries to share with you some of the films I think look most promising.

While I won't be heading to the 2009 Sundance Film Festival this year, I will be sorting through the humongous pile of festival entries to share with you some of the films I think look most promising. From quirky documentaries (like Chris Rock's) to talented young filmmaker debuts to a potential runaway hit, Sundance is filled with entertainment possibilities. Here are today's selections:

Adam
Boy, do I love me some Hugh Dancy and I've been waiting for this actor to land a juicy, leading role. Well, my prayers have been answered with Adam, in which he stars as a fellow who's a little bit different. The movie explores the idea that "truly reaching another person means bravely stretching into discomfiting territory — and the shake-up can be liberating." Dancy's co-stars include Damages's Rose Byrne, as well as Frankie Faison, Peter Gallagher, Amy Irving, and Mark Linn-Baker. I can't wait to see this one!

Jim Carrey Finds Love in Miami

While Jenny McCarthy was off to the White House over the weekend, Jim Carrey was down in Miami getting some sun on the set of his new movie I Love You Phillip Morris.

While Jenny McCarthy was off to the White House over the weekend, Jim Carrey was down in Miami getting some sun on the set of his new movie I Love You Phillip Morris. In the film which is based on a true story, Jim is a con artist who tries to escape from prison multiple times after falling in love with his former cell mate, played by Ewan McGregor. Sounds a little heavy, but apparently it's a dark comedy — so hopefully Jim will get to show off that funny side we love so much. If not, at least Rodrigo Santoro makes for some pretty hot eye candy on his arm.

Three Funny Ladies Get Great Comedic Roles

I love news days like today.

I love news days like today. Three actresses I love and admire have nabbed roles in promising comedies. Check it out:

  • Leslie Mann — Everyone's favorite hysterical wife from Knocked Up is signed on to play another spouse, this time married to Jim Carrey in the black comedy I Love You, Phillip Morris. According to Hollywood Reporter, "The story follows a married father (Carrey) who is sent to prison and falls in love with a cellmate named Phillip Morris. His love leads him to make several escape attempts."
  • Toni Collette will be joining the untitled Sam Mendes "relationship comedy" that already stars Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski. The HR description makes me smirk: "Collette will play a college professor and close family friend of a couple (Krasinski and Rudolph) canvasing the country to find the best place to raise their unborn child. She's convinced that their kid will end up dysfunctional no matter where it's raised." Yet another funny lady, Cheryl Hines, will also star in this one.
  • Candice Bergen will probably effortlessly slip into the role of "Marion St. Claire, the queen of all wedding planners" in the wedding comedy Bride Wars which stars Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway. According to Variety, "Story revolves around best friends (Hudson and Hathaway) who are pitted against each other when their wedding dates clash. They compete for venues, services and guests."
