'80s Throwback! 10 Movies That Pay Homage to the Decade

Who doesn't love a good '80s movie?
Movies That Take Place in the '80s

Who doesn't love a good '80s movie? The shoulder pads, the hair bands, the abnormally large cell phones — many Hollywood films have tried to recreate the feeling of the era through film, including this week's release Take Me Home Tonight. The film's cast already had fun re-enacting classic '80s film scenes, but it got me thinking about other films that pay tribute to the beloved decade. Here are 10 of the most memorable!

What Is the Best Comedic Movie of 2010?

Laughter is the best medicine, but which film brought in the biggest dose this year?

Laughter is the best medicine, but which film brought in the biggest dose this year? 2010 was filled with the ever-popular dude comedy, but there was also a Sex and the City flick and Easy A to prove that guys aren't the only ones getting big laughs. There may not be a standout like last year's The Hangover, but what do you think is the best comedic movie of 2010?

Who Are the Best Dude Buddies of 2010?

If the movies of the past couple of years are any indication, people love a good bromance.

If the movies of the past couple of years are any indication, people love a good bromance. What to Rent: New DVD Tuesday

If you need a break between your July 4 festivities this weekend, how about taking a time out with these new DVD releases?

If you need a break between your July 4 festivities this weekend, how about taking a time out with these new DVD releases? There's a family flick and a buzzy foreign film to choose from, but personally, I'm going '80s all the way.

Hot Tub Time Machine

John Cusack, Rob Corddry, and Craig Robinson play a group of friends on a weekend getaway at the ski lodge of their youth (along with Clark Duke). But with a little magic from a time-traveling hot tub, they transport back to the '80s for a redo of their past mistakes. The film is worth watching for the dated clothing alone (Cosby sweaters and neon leggings!), but Corddry steals the show with the frat-boy antics of his rude and crude character, Lou. If the original doesn't push the envelope enough for you (and how could it not?), then watch the DVD's unrated disc.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Percy Jackson looked poised to be the next Harry Potter — but the film didn't live up to box office expectations. Based on the book series, the movie centers around a teen (Logan Lerman) who discovers he's the son of Poseidon and must help settle a battle between the gods. Critics were mixed, but with famous names like Uma Thurman and Catherine Keener making cameos, I may just give it a spin. DVD extras include deleted scenes and a quiz that tells you what kind of god you are — could be fun, no?

Box Office: Dragon Soars Above Alice For a First Place Finish

Families swapped out the Tweedles for some fire-breathing friends over the weekend, making How to Train Your Dragon the No.

Families swapped out the Tweedles for some fire-breathing friends over the weekend, making How to Train Your Dragon the No. 1 pick at the box office. The animated film took in $43.3 million which was easily enough to unseat last week's champ Alice in Wonderland, which dropped nearly 50 percent for $17.3 million.

Another newcomer, the raunch-filled (but lovable!) Hot Tub Time Machine took third place with $13.6 million, while Jennifer Aniston earned $12.4 million for The Bounty Hunter. Diary of a Wimpy Kid rounded out the top five with $10 million.

Role Player: Which John Cusack Is Hotter?

John Cusack's new movie, Hot Tub Time Machine, is out this weekend, so what better time to look back at how he's changed over time?
John Cusack Movie Roles

John Cusack's new movie, Hot Tub Time Machine, is out this weekend, so what better time to look back at how he's changed over time? He may have lost to Freddie Prinze Jr. in the first round of our Teen Heartthrob Bracket (you can vote in the latest round now!), but I'd say he's improved with age anyway. So maybe this contest is better for John. After all, it can't get much better than competing against yourself — or can it?
