Hall Pass

Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis play a pair of suburban husbands who can't stop checking out other women, despite the fact that they have beautiful wives of their own (played by Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate). Fed up with their wandering eyes, their spouses give the men a "hall pass" — one week off of marriage so they can hook up with other women, and hopefully get it out of their systems. The raunchy comedy has some laughs, but avoid it if you're not into lowbrow humor. The DVD includes a few deleted scenes.

Red Riding Hood

In this re-imagining of the classic fairy tale, Amanda Seyfried plays Valerie, (wearer of the titular red hood), whose village comes under the attack of a werewolf. As the hunt for the attacker begins, Valerie finds herself questioning the woodcutter she loves and the rich boy she's been promised to. The movie is cheesy good fun, especially thanks to newcomers Shiloh Fernandez and Max Irons who play Valerie's love interests, and director Catherine Hardwicke adds some Twilight-esque finishing touches. DVD extras include an alternate ending, audition tapes, making-of featurettes.

Box Office: Rango Wrangles the Number One Spot

Animated films have been landing on the top of the box office heap for the past couple of weekends now.

Animated films have been landing on the top of the box office heap for the past couple of weekends now. While Gnomeo and Juliet won last week, this weekend's new release Rango claimed the number one spot. The Johnny Depp-voiced flick earned $38 million, while Matt Damon and Emily Blunt's romantic thriller The Adjustment Bureau trailed it with $20.9 million.

Beastly managed to get third place with $10.1 million, followed by the Farrelly brother's crass comedy Hall Pass, which brought in $9 million. Completing the top five was last week's champ Gnomeo and Juliet with $6.9 million. Newbie Take Me Home Tonight had a rough go, making just $3.5 million and landing it in the 11th spot.

Box Office: Gnomeo & Juliet Surpasses Hall Pass

Looks like audiences decided to pass on the Farrelly Brothers' Hall Pass at the box office.

Looks like audiences decided to pass on the Farrelly Brothers' Hall Pass at the box office. The film only took in $13.4 million this weekend, making way for Gnomeo & Juliet to steal the No. 1 spot. The animated family film has been in theaters for three weeks, but it brought in $14.2 million for first place; Hall Pass followed behind in second.

Last week's champ Unknown slipped to third with $12.4 million, while Just Go With It trailed behind with $11.1. That was just enough to squeak by I Am Number Four, which rounded out the top five with $11 million. The weekend's other newcomer, Drive Angry 3D, made a measly $5.1 million for the ninth spot. Perhaps audiences just aren't into Nicolas Cage.

Buzz Time Machine: Owen Wilson Takes a Beating in The Cable Guy

Everyone pays their dues when they're starting out in Hollywood, and for Hall Pass star Owen Wilson that meant getting dunked in a public toilet — on the big screen, at least.

Everyone pays their dues when they're starting out in Hollywood, and for Hall Pass star Owen Wilson that meant getting dunked in a public toilet — on the big screen, at least. In 1996's The Cable Guy, a then relatively unknown Wilson gets caught in a bathroom brawl with the demented cable guy (Jim Carrey), who's posing as a mustached restroom attendant. For this week's Buzz Time Machine, watch their tussle again as Wilson goes on a date with Robin (Leslie Mann!) and gets thrown around for laughs.

Hall Pass: Pass on This Unfunny Mess

Hall Pass is the latest movie from the Farrelly brothers, the writing/directing pair who established their distinctive style with comedy classics like Dumb and Dumber and There's Something About Mary.

Hall Pass is the latest movie from the Farrelly brothers, the writing/directing pair who established their distinctive style with comedy classics like Dumb and Dumber and There's Something About Mary. This time around they stick to their formula of a basic plot sustained by edgy jokes and gross-out humor. Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson play Fred and Rick, a pair of buddies who are bored with their respective marriages. Rick (Wilson) is a suburban dad who can't help checking out other women, while Fred (Sudeikis) is basically a dog who seems to hate being married altogether.

Neither can control his roving eyes and inappropriate comments, and when their wives (Christina Applegate and Jenna Fischer) get fed up with their antics, they each give their husband a "hall pass" — a one week break from being married. With their spouses out of town, Fred and Rick assume they're about to go wild as single men on the prowl. Their misadventures make for a journey that's often gross, vaguely offensive, and unfortunately, rarely funny. Find out why I wasn't into Fred and Rick's bachelor adventure when you read more

The stars of Hall Pass stepped out to premiere their comedy in LA last night. New dad and leading man Owen Wilson smiled for photographers, while his costars Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer, Alyssa Milano, and Christina Applegate posed nearby. Christina, who recently debuted her newborn daughter, Sadie, in People, talked on the red carpet about her dream of joining Jenna in The Office. Alyssa used the event to finally show off her baby bump after announcing her pregnancy earlier this week. Modern Family's Sarah Hyland, meanwhile, went casual for the screening following a glamorous Tuesday night out at the Costume Designers Guild Awards. Owen's latest movie is one of the February releases you're most excited to see, and we'll be able to check out the funny cast in action when it hits theaters tomorrow.

Hall Pass Trailer: Wilson and Sudeikis Want to Break Free

Big screen infidelity: so hot right now.

Big screen infidelity: so hot right now. In the latest Farrelly Brothers movie, Hall Pass, Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis play a couple of married men who can't keep their eyes off other women. When their wives (Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate) are fed up with their ogling, they each grant their husbands what they think they want: a hall pass. This means one free week to act single, try to hook up with other women, and then come back to their spouses (who hope that the freedom will make them better husbands).

From the preview, it feels like the subject matter is supposed to be seen as light and funny, but Wilson and Sudeikis's characters just come off as creeps. The wives seem pretty blasé about it as well (I don't know if I'm rooting for them to see some action too, or if that would just make it worse). There's a couple of mildly funny parts, so I'm genuinely curious to see if the Farrelly Brothers can make infidelity hilarious (and if Saturday Night Live's Jason Sudeikis can carry a lead role).
