Footloose Trailer: Dennis Quaid Does Not Approve of All this Cheesiness

Get ready to kick off your Sunday shoes because the trailer for the Footloose remake has arrived.

Get ready to kick off your Sunday shoes because the trailer for the Footloose remake has arrived. The story is pretty much the same as the 1984 classic: dancing is outlawed in a small town, this time because because dancing seems to lead to car accidents. Then, a mysterious new kid (Kenny Wormald) comes to town to shake things up and do some secret dirty dancing with the coolest girl in school (Julianne Hough) in a parking lot. Naturally, her preacher father (Dennis Quaid) is not happy about this development.

The movie looks a little edgier than the original, though it's hard to believe that any town would have a ban on dancing in this day and age. That said, fans of movies like Step Up will probably eat this up. I'm really interested to hear how you all feel about it, so give it a look when you read more

DWTS' Julianne Hough to Star Opposite Chace in Footloose

For the upcoming "more mature" remake of Footloose, we've already met our lead male (the year's hottest bachelor, Chace Crawford), who will take over the memorable role originally played by Kevin Bacon.

For the upcoming "more mature" remake of Footloose, we've already met our lead male (the year's hottest bachelor, Chace Crawford), who will take over the memorable role originally played by Kevin Bacon. Now they've found Chace a leading lady in Julianne Hough, a country singer and professional dancer on Dancing With the Stars.

The news piece doesn't go into details but I'm assuming Hough will play Ariel, the defiant and fiercely stubborn minister's daughter who befriends the new kid in town, Ren McCormack (especially after he takes part in a rousing game of Chicken with tractors). Hough's adorable and all, though I find it interesting that the filmmakers went with someone for whom the Footloose remake is her first real acting job. I think that's pretty cool, but do you think they should have gone with someone more established? Or is some new blood on the big screen refreshing?

Chace Crawford to Kick Off His Sunday Shoes

The Gossip Girl boys are getting some iconic roles these days.

The Gossip Girl boys are getting some iconic roles these days. First Ed Westwick is cast as Heathcliff in the Wuthering Heights adaptation and now this: Chace Crawford will take the lead role, originally played by Kevin Bacon, in the remake of Footloose.

Directed by choreographer extraordinaire Kenny Ortega (Dirty Dancing, Newsies, High School Musical(s)), this project will be "a more mature, edgy version of Footloose than the original." Zac Efron was previously attached to star in the film, but he dropped out, saying, "I want to grow a bit with the types of movies I want to make. It was more along the lines that I was looking for a new challenge, and this was another musical." I'm curious about Efron's use of the word "musical," however, since the original Footloose was not a musical but rather just a drama about the dancing and high school romance (and living in a town where dancing is banned!). There hasn't been any indication that this new movie will be based on the stage musical (which was based on the 1984 movie), but maybe that's the case.

Variety notes that since this new version will allegedly be edgier and more mature, it helps that Crawford's Gossip Girl audience is slightly older than that of Efron's High School Musical. What do you think about Crawford in this role? Can he pull it off?
