A new Halloween favorite, Tim Burton's Dark Shadows takes inspiration from the gothic soap opera of the same name that ran in the '60s and '70s. Aside from being filled with Tim Burton's signature kookiness, the movie also delivers some truly wild set design — much of which we're tempted to re-create. Take a look at some of our favorite moments from the film's spooky set, and learn how you can adapt it to fit your style. You may be surprised by how well this look could work for your home!

What to Rent: New DVDs This Week

Dark Shadows Tim Burton teams up with Johnny Depp once again to revive the 1960s TV series Dark Shadows.

Dark Shadows

Tim Burton teams up with Johnny Depp once again to revive the 1960s TV series Dark Shadows. Depp plays Barnabas Collins, a cursed vampire who is awakened after centuries of sleep. Now in the 1970s, he returns to his beloved mansion to find his wacky descendants living there and must help them restore the family business to the bustling empire it once was. Despite the promising combination of Depp and Burton, the film feels more scattered than inspired. DVD extras include deleted scenes and a making-of featurette.

People Like Us

Slick businessman Sam (Chris Pine) gets the surprise of a lifetime when his father dies and he discovers he has a sister (Elizabeth Banks) he never knew about. Though Sam is in dire straits for the cash he hoped to inherit, he tracks down his half-sister, Frankie, and realizes that with a rowdy kid to look after, she might need the break even more than he does. The semi-autobiographical story by Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek) is a bit hard to believe, and though Banks gives a great performance, it doesn't save the plot from becoming entirely too soapy. The DVD comes with commentary by the cast and by Kurtzman.

Johnny and Tim Bring Dark Shadows to Tokyo

Johnny Depp arrived at the airport in Tokyo this morning, and quickly changed blazers to hit the red carpet.

Johnny Depp arrived at the airport in Tokyo this morning, and quickly changed blazers to hit the red carpet. He and his Dark Shadows director Tim Burton were together for their latest screening, and they stopped to sign autographs for fans before debuting their eighth collaboration for Japanese fans. It's been a busy week for Johnny and Tim. They screened the picture in LA, then had an event with Johnny's costars Eva Green, Helena Bonham Carter, and Chloe Moretz in London. The Dark Shadows reviews have been mixed, making it unlikely that the movie will unseat reigning box office champ The Avengers in the US this weekend.

Burberry brought the fash pack — including Alexa Chung and Derek Blasberg — out for an intimate dinner hosted by Cara Delevingne at New York's New Museum, while in Los Angeles, an astonishing amount of parties and premieres brought super-chic moments from Emma Roberts, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloé Grace Moretz, and Doetzen Kroes. All those, plus our very favorite looks from the week's main event — the Met Gala — right here, in our best-of-the-week slideshow.
