Damsels in Distress

Greta Gerwig leads the cast in this enjoyable comedy from director Whit Stillman. Violet (Gerwig) and her two friends have a habit of helping — or at least trying to help — lost souls on their college campus. When they come across Lily (Analeigh Tipton), they feel compelled to take her under their protective wing. Extras include commentary with Stillman and cast, outtakes, deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes featurette and an interview with Stillman and the main cast.

Titanic is returning to screens in a big way on Wednesday with its 3D release, and finally, Adam Brody is back! Greta and Whit told us about their own university days at a recent NYC press day. Adam Brody is back on the big screen in Friday's Damsels in Distress, a movie about a group of college girls seeking to improve the mental health of their classmates through unconventional means. Adam plays Charlie, a suave guy who irks the ladies by attempting some old-fashioned pickup moves. At a recent press day in NYC, Adam told us about his own dating philosophy along with his costar Analeigh Tipton. Adam also addressed the odds of his return to TV like his former The OC costars Rachel Bilson and Ben McKenzie. Riffing on the plots of Rachel's Hart of Dixie and Ben's Southland, Adam proposed a rather interesting series for himself.

Today is the first day of April, which means a whole new crop of movies are slated to hit the theater this month. If you're the nostalgic type, Titanic is being rereleased, this time in 3D. If a tearjerker isn't up your alley, perhaps you'd rather try new comedies American Reunion or The Five-Year Engagement. That's not all though, so peruse the offerings and tell us which one you are most likely to line up for in April.

Trailer: Greta Gerwig Tries to Help Her Fellow Damsels in Distress

Just in time for Valentine's Day comes the trailer for Damsels in Distress, which follows a group of college ladies determined to save depressed girls and set them on what they deem to be the right track. Greta Gerwig leads the pack, and Analeigh Tipton (who you may remember from Crazy, Stupid, Love) is the wide-eyed newbie that Gerwig and friends are determined to make over. This isn't your typical Mean Girls-style group though: the ladies seem genuinely interested in helping people (and also, there's tap dancing).

The preview is reminiscent of many movies we've seen before (Clueless immediately come to mind), but it's more deadpan and perhaps a bit deeper than those types of comedies. I'm not totally in love with Gerwig as the queen bee, but I am most definitely on board with Adam Brody as Tipton's off-limits love interest. I was also excited to see some familiar faces like Aubrey Plaza and The Office's Zach Woods added to the mix.

It seems my perennial crush Adam Brody is continuing a career trajectory Seth Cohen would be proud of: The OC alum has signed on to star in indie comedy Damsels in Distress, opposite Greenberg's Greta Gerwig, from director Whit Stillman. Though Brody has had an assortment of movie roles, most of them have been as support (like in his current release The Romantics and the upcoming Scream 4), but here it sounds like Brody will have higher billing. He'll play a man dating a college woman (Gerwig), while her friends doubt his intentions.
