7 Reasons to Love Craig Ferguson

Happy Birthday, Craigy Ferg!

Happy Birthday, Craigy Ferg! Our favorite geeky Scotsman turns 50 today. Craig is a nerd-lover's dream; his love of science fiction and geekery come through on every episode and his Twitter account. Plus, he's got a TARDIS on his desk.

As host of the Late Late Show, Craig Ferguson has been keeping us in stitches since taking over late-night hosting duties in 2005. Here are seven reasons why we love the Ferg:

  1. Devoted Whovian — He dedicated an entire episode of his talk show to his love of Doctor Who. Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith even made his first American talk-show appearance for the episode.
  2. Robot cohost — Craig is such a huge Mythbusters fan that show host Grant Imahara built him a robot sidekick name Geoff Peterson.
  3. Geek Peacemaker — When discussing the time old debate of Star Trek vs. Star Wars with guest Adam Savage, Craig explains you don't have to pick a side, each have their own special star themes.
  4. Shark Fan — As host of the Discovery Channel's 2010 Shark Week, Craig guided viewers through his "favorite holiday."
  5. Loves puppets — Regular viewers of the show are familiar with the frequent use of puppets in the opening monologue and skits. For the 1,000th episode Wavy the crocodile hilariously hosted the whole show and interviewed Jason Schwartzman.
  6. Good sport — Craig went along with the original captain William Shatner's request to show off his horsemanship skills by galloping around the stage with Shatner at the reigns.
  7. Keeps it real — When Britney Spears was going through tough times a few years ago, Craig refused to joke about her on the show. Proudly sober for nearly 20 years, he understands that such trying issues don't need to be prodded further.

If you need any more proof as to why you should be loving Craig Ferguson, watch the song and dance performed on the Doctor Who episode of the Late Late Show. It wasn't aired on the show due to rights problems with the theme song, but it was later, thankfully, leaked on the web.

Jenna-Louise Coleman, Doctor Who's latest companion, made her US talk show debut last night on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, who deemed the actress "the sauciest of all the Doctor's companions." She's got "a bit more moxie," explained Craig, an avid Whovian himself.

Doctor Who, new companion Clara and all, returns to television just one day before the premiere of Game of Thrones's third season, which stars Jenna's main squeeze Richard Madden (geek match made in heaven, much?) who plays the ambitious Robb Stark on the HBO fantasy drama.

We can't wait to watch Doctor Who's latest adventures with Clara. What do you think of the new companion, Whovians?

Elizabeth Banks on Pippa: "I'd Do Anything to Have That Behind"

After Craig Ferguson jokingly referred to Elizabeth Banks's character in The Hunger Games, Effie Trinket, as Pippa Middleton, Elizabeth talked about how much she wished she had the same behind as Pippa.

After Craig Ferguson jokingly referred to Elizabeth Banks's character in The Hunger Games, Effie Trinket, as Pippa Middleton, Elizabeth talked about how much she wished she had the same behind as Pippa. While Craig isn't too impressed, saying it doesn't compare to J-Lo's infamous backside, Elizabeth disagrees. She says, "It is a fine looking behind." Elizabeth can now join the Pippa fanny fan club along with the rest of the men (and women) smitten with Kate's sister after the royal wedding. But we have to say, after seeing Elizabeth Banks rock her Hunger Games red carpet looks, we wouldn't mind having her derriere! Watch the funny clip!

Buzz In: Which Stars Would Make Great Awards Show Hosts?

If I watch Sunday's Tony Awards, it won't be just because I love Broadway.

If I watch Sunday's Tony Awards, it won't be just because I love Broadway. No, I'll also be watching for Neil Patrick Harris, who's hosting this year's ceremony. Harris cracks me up, and he's got a confident presence behind the mic. When he and Kristin Chenoweth briefly appeared to present an award at last year's Emmys, I found myself wishing they'd just hosted the whole show!

The man apparently just loves hosting, and he seems to be approaching the challenge of the show with a sense of humor — as seen in his top 10 signs you've hired a bad host for the Tonys list on Late Show with David Letterman.

Hosting is a tough gig for anyone, and I'm wondering if there are other stars you think could pull it off. Word comes this week that the Emmys are considering hiring Craig Ferguson as this year's host after last year's debacle with the five reality stars. And hiring Hugh Jackman seems to have worked out pretty well for the Oscars.

So tell me: Which stars do you think would make good hosts — and which shows would you want to see them do?
