Robert Pattinson Makes a Speech to Honor His New Moon Director

Robert Pattinson took the stage in LA last night for the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards held inside the Conga Room.

Robert Pattinson took the stage in LA last night for the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards held inside the Conga Room. He paid tribute to his New Moon director Chris Weitz, and later mingled with a crowd that included his Water For Elephants costar Christoph Waltz as well as Jon Hamm and Antonio Banderas. Rob looked back on the second film in the Twilight series during a break from promoting the next movie. Breaking Dawn Part 1 is out on Nov. 18, and talking up that picture has been consuming most of Rob's time in recent weeks. Robert and costar Kristen Stewart started their weekend Friday at a press junket, before moving on to a Twilight Q&A session Saturday, where the real-life couple were extra adorable with their stolen glances between queries.

Chris Weitz Wishes He Could Cut the Frolicking Vampire Scene From New Moon

Twilight fans still have a few months to go before Eclipse hits theaters this Summer, but they'll flock to the stores in a few weeks to pick up copies of New Moon on DVD on March 21.

Twilight fans still have a few months to go before Eclipse hits theaters this Summer, but they'll flock to the stores in a few weeks to pick up copies of New Moon on DVD on March 21. There are a few editions featuring all kinds of bonus features, and I was lucky enough to chat with director Chris Weitz on everything from his favorite scene, to Rob and Kristen's relationship, to what he wishes had ended up on the cutting room floor.

  • There are lots of different editions of the New Moon DVD. Which bonus features are you particularly excited about? I'm excited that my voice will finally be heard! For me, the fun thing was doing the commentary with Peter Lambert, my editor, because it kind of re-created the atmosphere in the cutting room. Peter's a really funny guy, and we were able to delve into not only the behind-the-scenes moments, but to explain why certain things were shot or cut together in certain ways. So that, for me, was the most fun.
  • When you go back and watch it again, are there things you'd like to change if you could? I would like to never have shot Rob and Kristen running through the forest and Kristen's just turned into a vampire. Because everybody always laughs and it makes me feel terrible. [Laughs] I would have shot it a different way so it wouldn't get that response. But otherwise, I'm very happy with things.
  • You must get lots of questions abut Rob and Kristen. Do you laugh it off or are you totally sick of hearing about it? I'm somewhat clueless — when you're the director, you're kind of like the school principal. Nobody really tells you anything. You really have no idea what's going on. I'm the last person who would know about this kinda stuff. I'm sure you could get more from reading the paper.

Do You Think Chris Weitz Should Direct Breaking Dawn?

Things have moved pretty quickly for the Twilight saga; New Moon is in theaters and Eclipse has already finished filming, so all eyes are on the final, challenging book Breaking Dawn.

Things have moved pretty quickly for the Twilight saga; New Moon is in theaters and Eclipse has already finished filming, so all eyes are on the final, challenging book Breaking Dawn.

Though there's no director hired for the last chapter yet, the latest news is that Summit wants Chris Weitz to direct, and they may split Breaking Dawn into two movies, like the treatment of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg is attached to write Breaking Dawn (hopefully she sees this letter).

If Weitz takes on the last film, he'd be the only director to helm more than one Twilight movie, and though I thought that he handled the special effects in New Moon very well, he's expressed trepidation at the idea. I'm not opposed to a different director taking on Breaking Dawn, personally — I'm anxious to see the job David Slade does on the more physical Eclipse; he might impress more than Weitz. And of course, a completely different, fourth director is intriguing as well. What do you think?

New Moon: Better Than Twilight

Let's be honest: for most of you, it doesn't matter what I — or any critics for that matter — have to say about New Moon, the incredibly anticipated sequel to last year's Twilight.

Let's be honest: for most of you, it doesn't matter what I — or any critics for that matter — have to say about New Moon, the incredibly anticipated sequel to last year's Twilight. The film started breaking box office records before it was even released, and audiences will flock to the theaters for weeks to come. On the plus side, a ticket to New Moon is a win even if you're not a Twihard — provided that you know what you're getting into.

New Moon is not incredibly acted, and it doesn't boast impressive dialogue or larger-than-life special effects. But it's not trying to be the Best Picture of the Year, so I can only critique it for what it is: a fantasy movie about a love triangle between a werewolf, a vampire, and a teenage girl.
