Buzz In: What Did You Think of the New Monday Night Shows?

Like football season, Fall TV has kicked off!

Like football season, Fall TV has kicked off! The hype machines have been in full swing to promote new shows, and they got to prove themselves last night as several new series premiered, including The Event, Hawaii 5-0, Lone Star, and Chase.

I had a sneak peek at the pilots and gave you my advice — in fact, three out of the four shows I just mentioned were among my top five to watch. But now that you've had a chance to see them for yourselves, what did you think? Are you addicted to The Event yet? Have a crush on Lone Star's James Wolk or Hawaii Five-0's Alex O'Loughlin? Love the kickass heroine of Chase? I can't wait to hear your first impressions in the comments below!

TV Tonight: Fall TV Takes Off With New and Returning Shows!

Fall TV has been slowly trickling in over the past two weeks, but tonight it turns things up full blast with an onslaught of returning shows and new soon-to-be favorites!

Fall TV has been slowly trickling in over the past two weeks, but tonight it turns things up full blast with an onslaught of returning shows and new soon-to-be favorites! Let's break it down: ABC's Dancing With the Stars comes back with a fresh cast followed by Castle, NBC will reveal last season's cliffhanger (Chuck's mom!) on Chuck, and we'll see how the romance between Cuddy and House is working out on FOX's House. Plus, there's How I Met Your Mother's premiere with Rachel Bilson.

As if that wasn't enough to keep you busy, there's also added competition, as the networks unveil new programming. Three of my five Fall must sees bow this evening, including CBS's Hawaii Five-0, NBC's The Event, and FOX's Lone Star with dreamy heartthrob James Wolk. They'll be accompanied by fellow newbies Mike & Molly and Chase (featuring a brand-new kickass female character).

Whew! I know it's going to be hard to keep track of everything — especially with so many shows competing in the same time slots — so make sure to download my official TV calendar to keep it all straight (my head is practically spinning already!). What will you watch tonight?

Fall TV's 5 New Kickass Female Characters

I've been on a quest to find the most kickass female character of all time, but there are a handful of new ladies around the bend that are already suitable for entering the running.
Fall TV's 5 Kickass Characters

I've been on a quest to find the most kickass female character of all time, but there are a handful of new ladies around the bend that are already suitable for entering the running. This year's crop of Fall TV shows brings with it five female characters with one thing in common: they're all badass in their own right.

Pilot Scoop: Chase

My friends, we're entering the homestretch with just a few more Fall TV previews left before the shows start arriving!

My friends, we're entering the homestretch with just a few more Fall TV previews left before the shows start arriving! Plan accordingly with my printable premiere calendar, then read on to get the goods on NBC drama Chase.

What it's about: U.S. Marshall Annie Frost (Kelli Giddish) is the mastermind behind a team that, in simple terms, hunts down the bad guys. Annie's presented as a tough, guarded (but not unfeeling) woman with a troubled childhood. In the pilot, Annie is hot on the trail of a serial killer while simultaneously trying to train a newbie Marshal (played by Jesse Metcalfe).

Where it works: The series is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and the pilot moves quickly and is all wrapped up with a big red bow at the end. I also like that the lead character is a woman who is confident enough to get respect at work but isn't lacking a sensitivity chip.

Where it doesn't: There's just nothing in Chase that grabs the audience by the throat, which is actually what the intention of a series like this should be. The writing is subpar, the plot is mildly interesting but quickly forgettable afterward, and none of the characters stand out enough to make a mark.

Am I hooked? No, but I'm not entirely turned off either. I'll give Bruckheimer's magic a few episodes before I make a steadfast DVR decision.

When is it on? Chase premieres on Monday, Sept. 20 at 10 p.m.

NBC Brings the Drama to the TCA With Chase and Outlaw

NBC's press tour for the Summer TCA got us up to speed with new Fall shows, which included the procedurals Chase and Outlaw.

NBC's press tour for the Summer TCA got us up to speed with new Fall shows, which included the procedurals Chase and Outlaw. The two dramas introduced stars like Jimmy Smits, Kelli Giddish, Cole Hauser, and Jesse Bradford, and gave us a peek at the two new series.

  • On Outlaw, Jimmy Smits plays a supreme court justice fed up with the system who quits to make changes from the inside out. Exec producer John Eisendrath said that Smits's character Cyrus Garza will go to a different city each week and take up a different case. He promised that we'd be looking at "hot-button issues" while Garza looks out for the little guy, fighting against the system.
  • Smits described his character as a man who "is outside the box in a lot of different ways," who makes a radical switch from his gambling, playboy ways. Besides calling it "a wonderful meal for an actor," Smits said that the role is "much more loose and comfortable" than anything he's played in the past.
  • Most famous exec producer? Conan O'Brien. Sadly, fellow producer David Kissinger said that O'Brien "isn't actively involved in a day-to-day way," but that "he's thrilled at the opportunity" to be a part of the show.

Hey Mister, Your Dog Needs a Hobby

We may laugh at dumb dogs who chase their tails, but who are we kidding?

We may laugh at dumb dogs who chase their tails, but who are we kidding? Like we haven't chased a cocktail with a shot and repeated until we drank ourselves dizzy — night after night after night. Same difference. Only Otter here actually accomplishes something in the process. You just watch.

Pluto Is P*ssed And Taking Names

Ten bucks that this little rascal was caught blowing spit balls at this lady (naturally) and Pluto's chasing him down to defend her honor. I love how the kid's mom gets involved. And by "involved," I'm referring to her pushing the poor pooch to the ground. Disneyland needs its own reality show.
