Captain Phillips Trailer: Tom Hanks Gets Hijacked on the High Seas

Tom Hanks takes the lead in Captain Phillips, the trailer that already has me swearing off any future ocean escapades.

Tom Hanks takes the lead in Captain Phillips, the trailer that already has me swearing off any future ocean escapades. Hanks plays Captain Richard Phillips in the terrifying true story of the Maersk Alabama, a ship that was commandeered by Somali pirates in 2009. The trailer really builds the tension, starting slowly and quietly as Phillips notices two dots approaching his ship on the radar screen. He knows the passengers are "not here to fish."

I couldn't help but shrink into my seat watching this trailer, and I'm not sure I could handle the whole harrowing movie. Although, given that one my my favorite actors of all time is in the lead role, I'm gonna have to chance it. Captain Phillips opens Oct. 11. Until then, watch the trailer after the jump.

Hugh Laurie Is Still Recovering From His Fight Scene With Catherine Keener

Hugh Laurie has put House's infamous cane to rest and moved on to a new role: Catherine Keener's philandering husband in The Oranges.

Hugh Laurie has put House's infamous cane to rest and moved on to a new role: Catherine Keener's philandering husband in The Oranges. At a recent press day in NYC, I talked to Laurie and Keener about their "happy" onscreen marriage, whether or not they think the film gives an accurate portrayal of suburban bliss gone awry, and their fight scene in the film. Check out the interview before The Oranges hits theaters on Oct. 5.

The Oranges Trailer: Hugh Laurie Has an Affair With Leighton Meester

Life is swell for the Wallings and the Ostroffs in the trailer for indie comedy The Oranges.

Life is swell for the Wallings and the Ostroffs in the trailer for indie comedy The Oranges. The two West Orange, NJ families are thick as thieves, until the patriarch of the Wallings family (Hugh Laurie) is discovered to be having motel rendezvous with Nina Ostroff (Leighton Meester), the 24-year-old daughter of his best friend (Oliver Platt). The revelation throws a wrench in the families' perfect suburban coexistence. Stern parent-child talks ensue, punches are thrown, and incredibly inappropriately photoshopped Christmas cards are sent out.

It's kind of weird to see Hugh Laurie embodying anything other than House's crippled curmudgeon demeanor. I know he had a career before House, and will presumably after, but it's still an adjustment. Having said that, this trailer has sold me on the movie. The situation seems realistic, but the characters are clever enough to make it heartbreakingly funny, rather than just awkward. It's also got a stellar cast that includes Alia Shawkat, Catherine Keener, and Adam Brody. Watch the trailer for The Oranges when you read more

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Interview on Fashion

Mary-Kate Olsen teamed up with actress Catherine Keener last night for a party for Style Wars, a documentary about hip-hop and street art that was released in 1983. It was an evening of fashionable shoulder rubbing for Mary-Kate, who also spent time with New York Rangers player Sean Avery. Ashley Olsen skipped out on the dinner, but she was spotted in the city this morning heading to a meeting. Both Mary-Kate and Ashley have been busy doing press for their various collections and new online shopping venture StyleMint, and recently spoke about the massive time commitment maintaining their style empire requires. Mary-Kate and Ashley touched on their "hobo-chic" period, their wide group of friends, and the power of the Olsen brand. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen told Style.com:

  • Ashley on their long hours: "I don’t think it’s the creative process that has ever gotten to us. More than anything, it’s about trying to find balance with work and how we can personally stay balanced while having our corporations grow, and I think that’s been the biggest thing that we are constantly aware of. We have to put boundaries on scheduling. We work crazy hours every week, so it’s been more about figuring out when we need to put our foot down. “We can’t add this extra meeting. It’s one too many meetings in a day; push it later.” So it’s been about that. And with The Row, it’s about how to elevate the process with growth without putting too much on the overhead."
  • Mary-Kate on the Olsen brand: "All over the world I think people know us from different stages of our life and different things, whether it’s videos or Walmart or as designers or acting. . . I think it’s remarkable that children know us now from things that we did 20 years ago, when we were little guys."
  • Mary-Kate on her "hobo-chic" period: "For me, it was so cold, like the wind chill. How could you not put on 20 things when you’re going from Los Angeles to walking through the snow?"
  • Ashley on hanging out with other designers: "I mean, honestly, I don’t leave my house. . . . I’m friendly with a lot of people, but when it comes down to it, you won’t see me actually in that [scene] . . . our closest friends are in all types of fields. My best friend is in law school, the other one’s a Pilates instructor, the other one’s a yoga teacher, the other one works in production, real estate, an entrepreneur."

Clive Owen still rocked his Hemingway and Gellhorn mustache last night at the LA premiere of Trust. The hot actor was joined by costars Catherine Keener and Viola Davis for the red carpet-less bash, along with director David Schwimmer and his pregnant wife, Zoe Buckman. Clive headed down to Southern California a few days ago to promote the thriller about a father defending his daughter against an online predator at their weekend junket. He was fresh off a few weeks in San Francisco, where he flaunted his facial hair around town and on the set of his new HBO project with costar Nicole Kidman.

David Schwimmer (yep, that David Schwimmer) is debuting his new film Trust at the Toronto Film Festival next month, but here's your first look. Clive Owen and Catherine Keener star as parents of a teenage girl who befriends a fellow kid online — or so they're led to believe. Viola Davis also appears as the daughter's therapist. With such a solid cast of actors, this should be a gripping thriller, right? Then, why does it look like a tired made-for-TV movie?! See what I mean when you read more

Chace Crawford Just Wants a Little Peace and Love, Man

He may be out of Footloose, but Chace Crawford already has another big-screen project in the works.

He may be out of Footloose, but Chace Crawford already has another big-screen project in the works. The Gossip Girl actor has just signed on for the indie film Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding, alongside Catherine Keener and Jane Fonda. Keener will star as Diane, a buttoned-up lawyer who travels with her children to stay with her hippie mother (Fonda) in Woodstock after her husband leaves her; Crawford will play a war-protesting butcher who earns the affection of Diane's daughter.

It looks like Crawford's recent arrest isn't slowing him down, but Woodstock, hippies — perhaps he was just toking up for research?
