Liam Hemsworth stepped out with a group of guy friends last night in Cannes at Belvedere's big soiree. The actor was one of several celebrities in attendance: Solange Knowles also arrived just before Rev Run and DJ Ruckus took to the turntables to spin a set full of throwback hip-hop for the crowd. The Help's Ahna O'Reilly also made an appearance at the party, which was nestled in an underground VIP space in the JW Marriott, right in the heart of the city's bustling festival scene.

Liam is in Cannes to celebrate the Hunger Games franchise, while Miley Cyrus has been tweeting about spending time in the recording studio back in the states as she works on new music. Liam's second film in the series isn't screening during the festival, but the cast — including Jennifer Lawrence — gathered today for a Catching Fire photocall, and Lionsgate is throwing a bash in honor of the film later tonight.

Employees of the hotel from which $1.4 million in Chopard jewelry was stolen last night are being questioned in connection with the robbery, the jewelry house says.

According to the BBC, an American employee of the Swiss jeweler was storing the jewels in a hotel room safe at the Suite Novotel Cannes Centre but wasn't there when the robbery took place.

Local police said the entire safe was take from the hotel room's wall, then removed through another room with an adjoining door. They, as well as officials from Nice who are leading the investigation, believe the robbery could be an inside job.

But contrary to earlier reports, a spokeswoman for Chopard told The Hollywood Reporter that the stolen jewelry was "not part of the collection of jewels that are worn by actresses during the Cannes Film Festival." So far, women including Julianne Moore, Fan Bingbing, Solange Knowles, and models Cara Delevingne and Cindy Crawford have been photographed wearing Chopard at the festival.

The company said the Palme d'Or — the golden palm frond it produces that represents Cannes's highest honor — was not among the items stolen.

Is there a more fashionable film festival than the one at Cannes? Based on the black-tie dress code and the sheer level of couture worn on the red carpet there, it's fair to say that this French town — which witnessed the beginning of its 66th annual film festival on Wednesday — has seen some of the best-dressed women on earth.

And while this year is already shaping up to be spectacularly glamorous, there are more than a few dresses in years past that stick out as some of the most iconic ensembles in Cannes history. From the gold-spangled Lanvin dress Linda Evangelista wore on the carpet in 2008 to the Jean Paul Gaultier bustier Madonna wore in 1991, these gowns are sure to go down as some of the most-loved Cannes red carpet choices of all time. The Roman Polanski-directed film, called A Therapy, takes place during a psychiatrist's session. Bonham Carter's character comes into the doctor's office wearing head-to-toe Prada, doffs her coat and shoes before laying on a chaise lounge to muse about being wealthy and lonely. But the magic happens when Kingsley stops listening and wordlessly gets up to try on his patient's coat. Watch the video below.

Jean Paul Gaultier may be on this year's panel of judges for the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, but there was a time when his avant-garde style kept him on the other side of the velvet rope. In a recent interview, the designer says it was only his friendship with Madonna that helped him gain access to the various screenings and parties at Cannes.

"I have been refused at the Festival de Cannes," he said. "Yes! First time, I was in a tuxedo but with shorts. Black. And second time I was with a kilt with tuxedo. Refused again. But the third time, I came with Madonna — I was in bed with Madonna . . . she was like my passport, so I got through it."

Gaultier famously designed the cone-shaped bustiers Madonna wore on her 1990 Blond Ambition Tour, among other costumes. He was named to this year's panel of Cannes judges along with actors Diane Kruger and Ewan McGregor.

While the outfit looks like an innocent — and very fun — party outfit, it's actually a seriously expensive endeavor: Chopard and Guiseppe Zanotti partnered to create Anja's shoes, which were covered with $180,000 worth of jewels. The heels, boasting diamonds, pink sapphires, rubies, and russellites, were auctioned off for $200,000 at the Gala. While we're not sure what Anja wore after her shoes were sold to the highest bidder, we're optimistic the leggy model still looked party-ready.
