New Community Group: I Made You a Mix Tape

Ahh, remember mix tapes?

Ahh, remember mix tapes? In middle school, I'd sit in front of the radio with my recorder to catch a song for posterity (right before the DJ clicked to commercial, of course). I did it so I could play the tune back to my heart's content — and sometimes, if a friend was very lucky, I would turn my favorites into a mix to share.

Now things are easier. Just a couple years ago, an ex made me CDs with downloaded music, and even though they were digital, I still treasured them. They helped me discover new bands I had never heard of, and OK, I tried to dissect every song for hidden clues about our relationship. Who hasn't done the same?

To celebrate the art of the mix tape, I've created a brand new group in the BuzzSugar Community for mix tape creators and their recipients: I Made You a Mix Tape. Once you join, feel free to post your own stories, any song titles from ones you've made (or gotten) in the past, or for kicks, create a new one. Did you make one recently that you're listening to on repeat? Still holding on to your high school boyfriend's featuring "Crash Into Me?" It's all about having a bit of nostalgic fun, so go here now and share. Happy mixing!

1. Seabiscuit
Such a great movie, so moving and exciting. Stellar cast. "Though he be little he is fierce."

2. The Sandlot
My all-time favorite movie as a kid. "He's a wienie, Oscar Meyer even, footlong, dodgerdog, a wienie!"

3. Remember The Titans
Great soundtrack, pretty good story. Also has Denzel.

4. A League of Their Own
Such a girl-power flick, love seeing those Peaches do their thing!

5. Whip It
I actually really liked this movie, especially when her dad pounds the sign into the lawn. I don't understand why she slaps the cute guy but okay.

lilkimbo's Favorite Sports Movies!

This particular list was difficult for me to compile because I love sports movies. I love the adversarial nature of both sports and sports movies; it's great to have someone to cheer for and someone to root against. I love the jitters over the big game, the desire of the characters to be the best. And to me, that's what truly great sports movies are about: the characters. A good sports movies makes you forget about the sport and focus on the people playing it.

You want the underdog to overcome the odds because he's worked hard and he deserves it. You want to aging star to have one last shot at glory. You want the fallen hero to redeem himself. I've never been an athlete, but I typically identify with the athletes in these films. I think in a way we all do. Why? Because we've all felt like the underdog at one point or another; we've all wanted another shot to be great; we've all wanted forgiveness for our mistakes. So, without further ado, here are my top ten sports movies of all time:

10. Jerry Maguire
9. Rudy
8. Hoosiers
7. A League of Their Own
6. Major League

6 Reasons the Golden Globes Are Going to Be Even Better This Year

The Golden Globes have always been known as the party-loving stepchild to the Oscars, but the telecast can be hit or miss. I’m banking on this year’s version being even more entertaining than it’s been in the past (or so I hope) for a few key reasons.

1. Ricky Gervais is hosting
He could just be the most hilarious Golden Globes host yet — well, he’s at least the first one since 1995. If last year was any indication, between his toting beer on stage and making a Holocaust joke at Kate Winslet, the guy clearly doesn’t give a sh*t, which makes for good TV. Plus, he’s beloved by the industry, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few funny on-stage gags where he teams up with his peers. How ‘bout a follow up to his 2008 Emmy-stealing bit with Steve Carell?

2. It’s live nationwide
For the first time ever. That means us west-coasters no longer have to wait three hours for the telecast — or have to try to stream the show from a shoddy website.
