Selena Gomez was rushed to the hospital in LA last night due to a sickness! The hard-working starlet, who recently posed for the cover of Billboard, on newsstands Monday, needed some medical attention. The teen sensation also just released a fun, new song, "Bang Bang Bang," though her relationship with Justin Bieber has also captured its fair share of headlines. The duo have been busy showing PDA around the globe from California to Hawaii and Canada. Selena took a break from making out, though, to pose for the music magazine as she also gears up for the release of her big-screen project Monte Carlo. She touched on her current career transitions, her love of working with her mom, and how she'd like to see the success of fellow Disney star Shia LaBeouf. Selena said in Billboard:

  • On her changing career: "It's obviously an important phase in my career, and personally. The good news is I have been juggling acting and singing for two-and-a-half to three years. But I have to start over in some areas. It's interesting to start taking risks to grow up through my music."
  • On working with her mom: "My mom has been my manager since day one. She helps me make choices correctly. She protects me."
  • On modeling herself after fellow Disney star Shia: "He did it really well. He's talented and doing wonderful things. Everybody has their own vision of how they want things to play out . . . . Eventually I hope to make a record in Spanish. I don't do anything that's not organic. I don't like putting my name on anything I don't approve."

Susan Boyle's Album Is No. 1 — For the Year!

This is a head-scratcher. After grabbing our attention on Britain's Got Talent, Susan Boyle debuted I Dreamed a Dream last week — and it's already smashing records. The album banked 701,000 copies, which puts Boyle not only at No. 1 for the week (over Adam Lambert, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga, no less!), but also at the top for first-week numbers for the year. In addition, the sales figures earn her the title of the best debut by a female solo artist in the history of Nielsen SoundScan.

Nothing against Boyle, but really?! Sure, I got weepy over her YouTube video, but I wasn't exactly rushing to iTunes to pick up her album. Her voice is amazing, but it's all covers, the stuff of easy listening. I didn't expect it to outdo so many other hyped artists. I bet her cat Pebbles is getting an extra nice Christmas present this year.

It's a new era of rock, folks. Billboard reports today that singles by Mariah Carey and Madonna have broken chart records previously held by Elvis Presley.

As expected, Mariah Carey moves past Elvis Presley and into sole possession of second place for most No. 1s in the rock era, as "Touch My Body" soars 15-1 on the Billboard Hot 100 to become her 18th chart-topper.

Presley will also be nudged from his standing as the artist with the most top 10s in the rock era, as Madonna surpasses him with her 37th top 10, "4 Minutes."

Billboard also points out that digital downloads are helping the singing divas: "'Body's' blast to No. 1 is fueled by a record-setting debut week digital tally of 286,000 downloads," and "Madonna's Hot 100 jump is spurred by stupendous download sales."
