Hart of Dixie and Beauty and the Beast have both been picked up for new seasons (this will be the second season for Beauty and the Beast and the third for Rachel Bilson's Hart of Dixie). As for other CW shows, there's no decision yet about whether The Carrie Diaries will come back, but there is definitive news about a brand-new The Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals — it's officially been given a whole season. Tale as Old as Time: Beauty and the Beast's History

Our favorite bookish peasant turned princess will soon be gracing the big screen not once, but twice.

Our favorite bookish peasant turned princess will soon be gracing the big screen not once, but twice. It was just announced that in addition to Guillermo del Toro's darker take on Beauty and the Beast (still in development) Disney will be releasing a live-action, likely 3D Beast-centric movie. Harry Potter star Emma Watson is attached to Guillermo's film as the leading lady, and she was even rumored to star in a Cinderella reboot (which she has since dropped out of).

With all the Snow White mania last year and a Sleeping Beauty film on the way, fairy tales are clearly having a moment, but especially Beauty and the Beast. There's even a new CW TV show inspired by the '80s series starring Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. It's a magical blast from the past for us, who grew up watching the animated Disney version and dancing along to "Be Our Guest." Beauty and the Beast has come a long way from its 18th-century French origins to today. Let's look at the evolution of the fairy tale in pop culture, from classic books to the latest film and TV interpretations!

Beauty and the Beast Go Castle Shopping on House Hunters International

When Beauty and the Beast needed a new castle, they called on HGTV's House Hunters International to help.

When Beauty and the Beast needed a new castle, they called on HGTV's House Hunters International to help. The couple is looking for a place with space for Belle to store her books in a location where people won't be scared away by the Beast's appearance. They've paired it down to three castles. Will they choose the place with the large living space and a place to keep glass slippers? The authentic seaside location? Or castle number three, which has a library and enchanted dishes?

Anyone who spends hours on the couch watching recorded episodes of the hit show will recognize the soothing voice-over and house-hunting jargon in this dead-on parody made by Disney and HGTV to promote the recent additions to New Fantasyland at Disney World. Watch and tell us: do you think Belle and the Beast chose the right castle?

How Do You Feel About The CW's New Shows?

Now that October is in full swing, most of Fall's new shows have had their premieres — including three new series from The CW.

Now that October is in full swing, most of Fall's new shows have had their premieres — including three new series from The CW. They're all pretty different: Emily Owens, M.D. focuses on a group of doctors, Beauty and the Beast is a fairy-tale-meets-cop-show procedural, and Arrow is the network's newest superhero show. Each series premiere earned decent ratings, but only time will tell how they will resonate with audiences as more episodes are rolled out.

I was hooked on Emily Owens right off the bat, and I'm willing to give Arrow a few more chances (even if the pilot didn't wow me). As for Beauty and the Beast? Let's just say I'm going to stick to Once Upon a Time to get my fairy-tale fix. That said, I'm interested in your thoughts on the new shows — how do you feel about The CW's three new series?

Pilot Scoop: Beauty and the Beast

The CW is known for giving love to its veteran talent, which is why it comes as no surprise that Smallville star Kristin Kreuk is making her return to the network this Fall.

The CW is known for giving love to its veteran talent, which is why it comes as no surprise that Smallville star Kristin Kreuk is making her return to the network this Fall. Once again she'll be tackling a familiar story, but she's transitioning from comic books to fairy tales with Beauty and the Beast. Get the lowdown before the show premieres tonight!

  • What it's about: Kreuk stars as Catherine, a bartender who bears witness to her mother's brutal murder, but is saved from harm by a mysterious animal. Fast forward a few years, and Catherine is a homicide detective. Her past comes back to haunt her when a new case leads her right to the "animal" that saved her life years ago. (Spoiler alert: it's actually a hot guy named Vincent (Jay Ryan) who turns into a monster when he loses his temper.)
  • Where it works: Kreuk is adorable and Ryan is sexy enough, but other than that, there's not much to get excited about here.
  • Where it doesn't: Not only is the pilot slow-moving, but it's filled with dialogue that's so cheesy it feels like a parody of a crime show. (I give you: "You look pretty good for a dead guy.") It also seems like a procedural, which is confusing since the real story here is clearly the relationship between Catherine and Vincent. As for those two: there's not enough sizzle between them to get me hooked on the show, and Vincent's transformation into the beast is a little too reminiscent of The Incredible Hulk — and not in a good way.
  • When it's on: Thursdays at 9 p.m. on The CW
  • You might like this show if: You wish Grimm was more cheesy and romantic.

The CW's Beauty and the Beast Has a Sexy Beast Problem

Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan are embodying iconic characters in this Fall's CW drama Beauty and the Beast, but looking at the cast on stage at their TCA panel, the question must be asked: how can the good-looking Ryan be construed as beastly?

Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan are embodying iconic characters in this Fall's CW drama Beauty and the Beast, but looking at the cast on stage at their TCA panel, the question must be asked: how can the good-looking Ryan be construed as beastly? Ryan himself and the producers addressed that issue, while also talking about the show's relation to the 1980s TV series and how the relationship between the beauty (Catherine, a detective) and the beast (Vincent, a scientifically enhanced former soldier) will develop.

  • A reporter noted that in the pilot, Ryan's character, Vincent, generally only has a scarred face and wondered if that took away from the original idea of the story, in which the Beauty has to get over the Beast's appearance. Exec producer Jennifer Levin explained that Vincent's beastliness is more on the inside, which "was more interesting to us." She said, ominously, that "the beasts in our lives don't always look like beasts," and Ryan added that his character is "more of a Jekyll and Hyde" type.
  • Ryan and the producers expanded on the beastliness of Vincent's character, whom EP Sherri Cooper described as "a super soldier gone bad." Ryan says that Vincent has the DNA of different animals, like the vision of a hawk and the strength of a tiger, but if he seems a little tame in the pilot, Ryan assured us that Vincent is actually going to get worse, and "we'll explore why," said Cooper. In fact, Levin said that the fact that Vincent is getting more "beastly" will be the obstacle to his relationship with Catherine in the first season.
  • Though Kreuk said that the Beauty and the Beast story she's most familiar with is the Disney film, the show is a pretty loyal reboot to the '80s series that starred Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman. The producers secured the rights to that show, which is why Kreuk and Ryan's characters have the same names, Catherine and Vincent. Kreuk said she even got a sweet gift of signed photos from Hamilton recently, which made her feel good "to know she's wishing us well."
