Hello Buzz Book Club readers! Welcome to August! We finished the July book club selection a week ago, and while the breather was kind of nice, it's time to get back to reading. After last month's detour to personal essay-ville, we're returning to fiction-land for August, as I've chosen Tom Perrotta's book The Wishbones as this month's selection.

This book was the author's first novel and came before his more famous works, like Election and Little Children. The story seems like The Wedding Singer meets High Fidelity, and it piqued my interest because — like his other books — it will also become a movie soon.

For those of you new to my book club format, here's how it works: I'll announce a new book each month. Every week I'll suggest chapters to complete by the next post (which, in this case, will go up every Friday in August). In these weekly Book Club posts, I'll posit a few discussion-provoking questions for you to respond to in the comments section.

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Sasquatch, and I'm excited to see what San Francisco does with Outside Lands, but in my mind the king of the Summer music festivals is still Lollapalooza. Now in its fourth year in Chicago's Grant Park, the festival just keeps upping the ante: This year's schedule includes headliners Radiohead, Wilco, Rage Against the Machine, Kanye West, and Nine Inch Nails, along with a lot of relatively smaller bands that I'd love to see live: Love and Rockets, The National, Girl Talk, Explosions in the Sky, MGMT, and Mates of State, to name just a few.

Luckily, this year we can once again check out the festival from afar via the AT&T Blue Room. The site will be webcasting hours of Lolla shows each day this weekend, starting around 1:15 p.m. EDT each day.

Today's lineup includes Rogue Wave, The Kills, Bloc Party, and the Raconteurs. Saturday, the site will show performances by Margaret and the Nuclear So-So's, Duffy, DeVotchka, and Broken Social Scene, among others. And Sunday wraps up with broadcasts of Flogging Molly, Love and Rockets, and The National.

One of the biggest Emmy snubs — now two years running! — is the exclusion of Connie Britton for her pitch-perfect performance as Tami Taylor in Friday Night Lights. For two years, she's played Tami's highs (helping troubled Tyra get her act together) and lows (slapping daughter Julie outside after a particularly troublesome act of teen rebellion) with just the right balance of drama and humor — and, when season three begins, she'll find Tami in a demanding new job.

At NBC's party at the TCA press tour, I stole a few minutes with Britton, who was just back from a trip to Uganda and Kenya with One and the Africa Children's Choir. Despite jet lag — and the fact that I was the only person between her and a glass of wine — Britton was still incredibly gracious in our chat (just as I'd always suspected she'd be). You guys! I didn't realize how invested I was in the So You Think You Can Dance top six until Thursday's elimination show. Was that some emotion I felt? Some tears, even? Why, yes.

Fact is, I really don't feel like I'm done watching any of these six dancers — a feeling that didn't really set in until their group dance to "The Rose," a gorgeous number that gave me real, honest-to-goodness chills. This season might have started out kind of rocky, and it took a while for me to become attached to any of the dancers, but I really adored this final group.

Of course, that top six has now been cut to a top four, awaiting next week's finale where America's Favorite Dancer will be crowned. So who will get the chance to compete? To find out, just read more

Full disclosure: I've never paid too-too much attention to these Mummy movies starring Brendan Fraser, but I know they're meant to be fun action-adventures that we shouldn't take too seriously. For this third installment, I thought it would be a good idea to take my manfriend along with me to see The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Sometimes instead of spending brain power on a review of a movie like this, it's more helpful to just talk it out with someone who's more likely than I am to passingly enjoy this kind of Summer action flick.

But as generous as my boyfriend can be about action movies and CGI, even he wasn't swayed by the "charms" of Brendan Fraser, and came away feeling like the movie's kind of a mess. I don't want to give away too much of our conversation before the break, other than the big takeaway: he really likes the Yetis, and I don't think he'd object if the fourth movie were to star them instead of the humans.

The networks have announced their Fall schedules, but which of the series will actually be worth watching? This Summer, as the networks release their pilots, I'll be posting my first impressions. A lot can change before a show makes it to air — especially this year, when the writers' strike severely gummed up the production of pilots — so consider these just some quick thoughts on how the shows look now. Today's installment: Fox's Do Not Disturb, the network's only new comedy of the Fall, which will be paired with 'Til Death on Wednesdays.

What's it about? The Upstairs, Downstairs-style comedy focuses on the relationships between the employees of a ritzy hotel.

Who's in it? Niecy Nash, Jerry O'Connell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Molly Stanton, Jolene Purdy

The good: This show has a lot of funny people who are hilarious on their own and should, ideally, be funny together. I love Nash on Reno 911!, I think infinitely higher of O'Connell after his Tom Cruise parody video, and executive producer Abraham Higgenbotham was a writer on Arrested Development (fellow Arrested alum Jason Bateman directed the pilot). Nash, in particular, has a commanding presence on screen and seems like she could really do a lot with her character.

The bad: Stereotypes. Everywhere. Some of them are actually funny (there's a great sight gag with the women at the reception counter going up on their tippy-toes to please O'Connell's character, after Nash's character gets them some more-comfortable but less-skyscraping shoes), but so many of them just made me cringe. Like what? Well, the plot line of the first episode revolves around an overweight phone receptionist who wants to interact with hotel guests but isn't allowed to because of her looks. Yes, the bosses keeping her hidden come off as abhorrent — but mostly I felt like the show wanted us to point and laugh right along with them.

Will I watch? The show will have to get a lot less broad and stereotypical if it wants to keep me as a viewer.
