Ben Folds's plucky tune "You Don't Know Me" has that bouncy piano thing that actually reminds me more of Regina Spektor's music than Ben Folds's, so it seems fitting that Spektor would contribute some sweet vocals to the track. "You Don't Know Me" will be on Ben Folds's September album Way to Normal.
I'm really digging this song. No, it's not much like Folds's older stuff, but it's a cute, jaunty departure from the norm, and I can appreciate that. To check out the song for yourself, read more
Last night's Project Runway began as they all do: winner picks model, Heidi tempts us with a prelude to the challenge, the designers get a promise to the tune of "Tim will fill you in on all the details later." Lucky for us viewers, we got to hear what was in store mere moments later, but the designers weren't as fortunate, leaving Jerell to say, "I don't really have any idea where we're going to be going — I just really hope it has nothing to do with female wrestlers." Oh Jerell, that'll never happen again. Right?
Well, this week's challenge wasn't to wardrobe the women of the WWE, but it wasn't too far off. The designers were instructed to create an outfit for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics. This didn't seem too "wack-a-doodle" (as Suede would say), but based on the reactions of designers like Daniel who had never watched an opening ceremony, it was. As he imagined it, "somebody holds a flame and runs around a track field." Which was off the mark, but not nearly as much as his dress was. Yes, he designed a dress, and most of the other designers did skirts, which resulted in a couple laugh-out-loud moments watching the models walk the runway.

The Summer Olympics in Beijing kick off on Friday, with NBC broadcasting several hours of the opening ceremonies. For the next two weeks, coverage of the Olympics will be all over NBC and its cable networks — but how many hours are we talking here? Test your knowledge of that, and many other Olympics-related TV questions, in my quiz!
So it's not exactly a secret that I can be a little sappy, but man, I was not expecting there to be so many moments in Wednesday's final So You Think You Can Dance competition show that would get the waterworks aflowing. From the "OMG last time ever!" look on Courtney's face at the end of the intro to that Celine Dion song playing when Twitch talked about the Viennese Waltz, Twitch patting the stage at the end of his solo to Mia's group hug at the end, well, it was a night perfectly constructed to turn me into a sloppy mess. If I were Mary Murphy, I'd use words like how privileged I felt to be able to be on this journey with them and watch them grow, but I can't scream that loud, and so I'll leave it at this: I can't think of another reality show where I've felt so close to all the contestants in the final four, and that includes the best years of Project Runway.
Of course, only one dancer will take home the title tonight, and so after the jump, I'll take it routine by routine, trying to guess who will stand out. In general, I thought Courtney and Joshua had their best moments early in the show but were obviously flagging by the end, while Katee got better as the night went on and Twitch had maybe his greatest night of the whole season. When I traveled to Napa to attend the premiere of Bottle Shock, one of the stars I was most excited to speak with was Gio! Freddy Rodriguez. I've always admired his work on shows like Six Feet Under and of course Ugly Betty, and I'm excited to see that he'll still take part in an independent movie now and again.
His character in the movie, Gustavo Brambila, is a person in real life, and Rodriguez appeared to have a good relationship with him at the premiere. Gustavo is supposed to have an incredible palate and winemaking abilities, and though he's portrayed as an intense dude in the movie, Rodriguez told me he's actually very shy in person.

The female friendship movie is a totally different animal than the romantic comedy, and yet they often get lumped together under one big "chick flick" banner. Recent Summers have been heavy on the bromances (see Superbad, Knocked Up, Step Brothers, Pineapple Express, etc.) so I thought it would be fun to take a moment to remember some of the best (girl-mances? lady-mances?) girlfriend movies in honor of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 opening this week. To see my selections hit "Start".
Singer and actress Selena Gomez posed for pictures at the 2009 American Music Awards with a pretty pink smile on her face. She took advantage of the occasion and went glam; wearing a Talbot Runhof sequin dress with black strappy heels.
