Survivor: Gabon, the 17th edition of the stalwart Survivor series, premieres Sept. 25, and today CBS revealed the 18 castaways who will — in the network's words — "embark on an amazing African adventure, battling extreme conditions and interacting with wildlife such as elephants and gorillas while attempting to forge alliances with strangers from diverse backgrounds."
It's actually a pretty interesting group: An actress who was briefly on Gilmore Girls is in there, as is an Olympic gold medalist and a professional gamer. According to host Jeff Probst, there's a pretty strong good vs. evil theme this season. Also, the show will be shot in HD for the first time, meaning that even if the contestants are obnoxious, the backdrop will look beautiful (at least for those with HD screens).
Every year, I'm a little surprised when Survivor returns, and yet it keeps holding its own in the ratings. Check out the video introducing the contestants, and then let me know: Will you be watching this voyage to "Earth's last eden"?
For the past four years, the Hotel Cafe Tour has practically been a required gig for musicians on the road to breakout success (coincidentally, that same road often includes stops on shows like Grey's Anatomy and Gossip Girl, and, of course, Old Navy commercials). This year is unique because it's the first time the tour will have an entirely female lineup, sort of like a Lilith Fair for a new generation. What's even more exciting than the acts is how affordable it is — for the San Francisco show that I would like to attend the ticket price is $19!
Each city along the way will feature a handful of artists from the roster, which includes Rachael Yamagata, Ingrid Michaelson, Meiko, Priscilla Ahn, Thao Nguyen, Brooke Fraser, Jenny Owen Youngs, Lenka, Emily Wells, and more. You can see who is playing in your city at the Hotel Cafe's MySpace page, which also says that tickets went on pre-sale "today."
For now, you can check out a little playlist I put together featuring artists from the tour if you read more
Wyclef, Everclear, and Daughtry at the DNC
Wyclef Jean, Everclear, and Daughtry could just be CitizenSugar's new Peter, Paul, and Mary after the performances she caught at the DNC. To see what the heck I'm talking about, click here.
Entourage is (finally) back Sept. 7, but if you want to see the show's season five premiere early, just book yourself a Virgin America flight from NYC to Vegas. For all of September, that flight will be rebranded Entourage Air with special Entourage-themed goodies — and, starting on Sept. 4, a screening of the show's premiere episode.
The inaugural flight — which has to be quite the hot ticket — includes a party with the cast and Virgin founder Richard Branson on the JFK end of the trip and a party at the Palms Casino Resort's Playboy Club after the flight lands in Vegas. (What, they couldn't throw a party on the plane, too?) If you can't make that reservation, no worry: all first-class passengers will be treated as Entourage Class throughout the promotion, which includes champagne, noise-canceling headphones, Godiva chocolates, Kiehl's goodies, Altoids (Altoids?), and Entourage Air-branded blankets and eye masks.
But if you're not an Ari Gold-style high roller, don't worry. There are other ways to get an early glimpse of the Entourage premiere — like a couple of clips just below the jump. The show opens with Vince trying to get back on his feet after the shocking failure of Medellin, first taking refuge in Mexico, and then trying to decide whether to hop back into the game. Flashback: Steve Guttenberg in Can't Stop the Music
As GiggleSugar puts it, "If Steve Guttenberg can't stop the music, it must truly be unstoppable." Take a funny trip back in time with her to the Village People (plus Steve Guttenberg) movie, Can't Stop the Music.
Singer and actress Selena Gomez posed for pictures at the 2009 American Music Awards with a pretty pink smile on her face. She took advantage of the occasion and went glam; wearing a Talbot Runhof sequin dress with black strappy heels.
