All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. In addition to my selections below you can also catch up on season four of Eli Stone.
The Office: Season Four
There are a handful of TV shows that I love to own and have handy for when I need a pick-me-up, and The Office is definitely one of them. Hurray for the release of season four and more of "The World’s Greatest Boss!" The season started out slow for me but got a lot better as it progressed, and Jim and Pam tentatively entering into a romance was a definite highlight.
Special features include deleted scenes, outtakes, commentary on "Did I Stutter?" and featurettes titled "The Office Convention: Writer's Block Party" and "Goodbye, Toby Music Video."
Which 90210 Character Are You? The new 90210 premieres tonight at 8 p.m. (EDT) on The CW! To prep yourself for tonight's special two-hour premiere, take this little quiz to find out which 90210 character is the most like you. Then watch tonight to see if you agree!
Whoa! Whoa, whoa, whoa. There's a new Grey's Anatomy promo out there on the interwebs, and it is seriously juicy.
Juicy how? Juicy like Rose isn't exactly gone yet. Juicy like the m-word — "married" — comes up. Juicy like Cristina tells Meredith to shut up, which always makes me cheer a little inside.
Now, there's already some gossip about one of the major plot points in the trailer, in case you'd like to have even your spoilers spoiled. But if you just want to watch and see what season five might have in store, just read more
In a world where movie trailers were a key way to drum up excitement for an upcoming feature, there was but one king: Don LaFontaine. LaFontaine, whose voice is probably the one that pops into your head anytime you hear that classic "In a world . . . " beginning, recorded more than 5,000 voiceovers for commercials, video games, and — most notably — movie trailers over the course of his career. LaFontaine died Monday at age 68 from complications from a collapsed lung.
Among the companies that used LaFontaine as their official voice: Paramount, TBS, TNT, the Cartoon Network, and every broadcast TV network except the WB. Some of his best-known work was in trailers for The Godfather, Fatal Attraction, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and he'd more recently parodied himself in a Geico insurance commercial. He often said in interviews that his own favorite voiceover was the trailer for The Elephant Man, but he tried not to let his own opinions seep into his voiceovers. As he once told Swindle magazine:
My philosophy is that you have to really believe what you're reading, even if you think the film's a piece of junk. Even the worst picture is someone's favorite film, and that someone is the fan I am always talking to.
One thing's for sure: Movie trailers won't be the same without him. To see some of LaFontaine's work, including a Good Morning America interview, the Geico ad, and the Elephant Man trailer he loved, just read more
The CW is having some fun with today's date, premiering its new version of 90210 with a two-hour premiere tonight, Sept. 2 — you know, 9-02.
Now, if they really wanted to have fun with it, they'd save the show for a couple of years so it could premiere on 9-02-10. It really couldn't be more appropriate than that — especially because 90208 isn't even a real Zip code! But since that's highly unlikely at this point, I figure we might as well have a little bit of fun with the date, too. So, tell me, where does your excitement for the show fall on the 9-2-1-0 scale?
Hey everyone. BellaSugar here. Buzz has let me guest-blog because, well, I won't shut up about The Shield. I know what you're thinking: "Another cop drama? Yawn." Yeah, that's what I thought, too, but trust me: This is easily the best show on TV. The first episode of the seventh and final season airs tonight at 10 p.m. on FX, and if you aren't watching, you're missing out. The Emmy-winning acting is marvelous, the writing is tight (seriously, no plot line is left unfinished) and you'll be amazed by how much drama is packed into each episode.
A little background: Inspired by the real-life story of a corrupt anti-gang unit in the LAPD, the show focuses on the Strike Team, a group of dirty cops. When I say dirty, I mean filthy: They've killed fellow officers, knocked over the Armenian mob, and aren't above a little police brutality on the side. When we catch up with Detective Vic Mackey, the team leader, he's fighting to keep his badge — and plotting against his partner, Shane Vendrell, who murdered another member of the Strike Team. Oh, and did I mention that his teenage daughter is getting involved with some illegal dealings of her own, that he's the baby daddy of another cop's child, and that he's stolen a list of files used in an elaborate blackmail scheme? Juicy stuff.
I've checked out the first eight episodes of season seven in advance, and for you fellow fangirls (and fanboys) who are already hooked, I've got a few thoughts if you read more
Welcome back, Gossip Girl fans! If you weren't still basking in your Labor Day vacation last night, then you too watched the awesome and mostly hilarious premiere episode of season two like I did. True to form, the writers of Gossip Girl packed in a whole lot of plot, and the back-and-forths were at times mind-boggling. After covering the slow, deliberate Mad Men line delivery, it was a jolt to the system to hear these kids talk a mile a minute.
I would do a bit of season one recapping here, but the first three minutes of last night's episode were pretty darn comprehensive, so let's skip it and get to the good stuff. Blair's new man! Nate's Summer fling with a married lady! Dan's writer's block (try not to laugh) and new nickname courtesy of Gossip Girl herself! Jenny's internship and inexplicably awful Devil Wears Prada boss! Chuck's Chuckness! Ready, set, read more
Jenna Dewan walked down the street in Beverly Hills looking extremely chic and poised. Her structured white blazer framed her body perfectly, and paired well over her draped fringe Haute Hippie halter which she wore with denim leggings and over-the-knee brown boots.
