As you probably saw earlier today, it's wedding season here on the Sugar Network, and we're kicking things off with an engagement theme. While many of the other Sugar sites will have all kinds of practical advice for the newly engaged, I wanted to take a moment to escape into pure fantasy. Which couples from movies, TV, and even books were you glad to see get engaged?
Personally, I always swoon when I think about Carla and Turk's engagement on Scrubs. Things didn't go so well for Turk the first few times he asked (here's one of his sweet but misguided public displays of affection), but finally, Carla gave in and let him pop the question for real. That scene proves that you don't even need dialogue for a proposal to be sweet — though an Old '97s song can help. To check it out, and to tell me about your favorite fictional engagements, just read more
Have you heard anything about this movie? Me neither! I recently stumbled upon the trailer for it and became intrigued, mostly because I have come to adore Aaron Eckhart and would watch him do most anything. The premise for Meet Bill (not to be confused with Eddie Murphy's Meet Dave, mind you, though both these Meet ___ movies star Elizabeth Banks) is also pretty cute: Bill (Eckhart) is your average schmo with a mundane job and, he soon realizes, a cheating wife (Banks). When he mentors a rebellious high school kid, he learns a few things about being proactive. Alba plays a woman enlisted by the kid to help Bill with his love life.
Meet Bill is scheduled to open in limited release this Friday April 4. To check out the trailer and tell me what you think, read more
If it's Springtime, there must be an American Idol controversy brewing. Right on cue, David Cook has stepped up as this year's rabble-rouser. Much like Chris Daughtry was slammed for performing a version of "Walk the Line" that was originally performed by Live without identifying the band as his inspiration, Cook has found himself at the center of controversies over covers of his own.
Maybe Cook is really an innovative musician and performer. Maybe he's just skilled at finding cover versions of songs he likes and singing them well. Here's my question: Does it matter? Should Idol contestants be limited to the original arrangements of songs, or should all covers be fair game?
Wedding bells are here again! Today we're kicking off our second-annual wedding season bonanza on the Sugar Network! Over the next few months, the Sugar sites will be sharing all sorts of wedding ideas and tips, from fashion and beauty secrets to registry picks and party plans to advice on getting in shape for the big day. Together with our sponsor, Macy’s, we've also created a new site called IDoSugar.com, where you'll be able to find all of our great wedding content in one place.
We're kicking things off with Engagement Week, which will cover everything you need to know from the wedding proposal to budget-planning. Stay tuned all Spring for more wedding coverage, including showers, parties, wedding trends, honeymoons, and more.
Happy April! Here in my part of the world, the sun is shining brightly, but I still plan to be inside a good part of this month due to movie releases like Baby Mama and Leatherheads — not to mention the great TV returning this month. In addition to new movies and good TV, this April brings some fabulous new music, an exciting new read and a few Oscar darlings on DVD. To see my picks, just press "Start."
