>> IN THE LOOKING GLASS —The portfolio — and some outtakes — Ellen von Unwerth photographed in her makeshift studio backstage at couture last month is finally up. Moments like Tanya Dziahileva in Armani Prive standing next to Anna Piaggi or a fish face-pink braided topknot combination at Lacroix were captured just seconds before the models were whisked off by handlers, to be stripped down and taken to their next show. [The Moment, NYT]
>> Apparently Diane von Furstenberg's Purple cover — featuring the designer in leotard, heels, and Margiela wig coat — sold well; Founder Olivier Zahm posted a note today saying that the magazine "is currently sold out in most of the United States." For those who haven't snatched up their copy yet, new shipments are arriving Friday, but in the meantime, a further look at Diane's editorial outing — curiously, she's not wearing any of her own designs, but rather Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and Rodarte. We know she's a fan of the latter; she was front row at their show last week.

>> The 2009 Vogue Paris calendar — which comes as a supplement to the December/January issue — arrived a little early. Fourteen different girls are featured, photographed by Terry Richardson and styled by Carine Roitfeld as pinups in Louis Vuitton lingerie and shoes. Jourdan Dunn is a sexy nurse, Ali Michael a sexy cheerleader, Eniko Mihalik graces the cover as sexy kitten — Carine even included a spread for the solar months, with patrons saints Alber (Elbaz), Gareth (Pugh), Lara (Stone), and their ilk celebrated.

>> Deep in the Okavango Delta of Botswana, photographer Peter Beard directed Mariacarla Boscono and Malgosia Bela to "show me fun" as they mucked through an algae-covered swamp in May. "Does it feel nice?" he asked Malgosia, who was submerged up to her waist in the goo. "It's nice," she replied, bringing her green hands up to her face.
The finished product — the 2009 Pirelli calendar — debuted yesterday, and you can see the whole thing here (NSFW), but it didn't come without the model cast (Rianne Ten Haken, Isabeli Fontana, Kemp Muhl, Daria Werbowy, Lara Stone, and Emanuela de Paula in addition to Mariacarla and Malgosia) going out on a limb — literally: one shot features a number of them posing nude way up in a bare tree. And they weren't always so comfortable — a big bug was placed on Isabeli's face, and though Peter directs, "Eyes open! Eyes open!" she visibly flinches, "I can't."

>> IN THE LOOKING GLASS —The too-racy-for-Vogue Italia Steven Meisel spread that got picked up by V Magazine? It has Anna Selezneva, Daul Kim, Iris Strubegger, and Naty Chabanenko participating in a little crotch-grabbing, a little voyeurism — it's definitely NSFW and is generally more tame than expected, based on the preview — see for yourself. [The Cut]
>> By now, we've seen the lookbook pictures of Rei Kawakubo's Comme des Garcons for H&M collection — but how do they look on? Erin Wasson obliges in the November 2008 issue of Vogue Nippon, styling herself in those polka dot tops, dropped-crotch trousers, and deconstructed jackets for our viewing pleasure.
>> Just a few days ago, Lily Cole attended her matriculation ceremony at Cambridge, all buttoned-up in scarf, beret, and coat, and now we get to see quite a different side of her, courtesy of the October 2008 issue of Playboy France. Inside, "Sweet Lily" sports lingerie and less for her saccharine sixties-themed editorial, a complement to her teddy-and-me cover for the magazine.
Needless to say, the gallery below is NSFW.
>> Steven Meisel's October 2008 "Natural High" editorial in Vogue has everyone talking. Where else but Vogue would you see models in chubbies (not to be mistaken with chubby models) climbing up the steep side of a mountain, goat-style, clutching clutches and in super-high heels? Or what about Caroline Trentini, dangling over the side of a cliff? This one is just begging to be LOLVogued.
>> May brought us paparazzi shots of Agyness Deyn jumping nude off a Manhattan fire escape for Ryan McGinley, and September finally brings us the final product: "Feeling Falling," styled by Katie Grand for POP Fall 2008. Agyness appears more clothed than those pap shots would have you think, but they're pretty amazing, especially considering that she was falling five stories into a crash mat.
Full gallery (NSFW) below.
>> IN THE LOOKING GLASS —POP's Fall 2008 issue has six fantastic theological covers, but what I'm really looking forward to are the innards, especially the editorial Ryan McGinley shot of Agyness Deyn jumping from a fire escape nude. Here's your first look, and surprisingly — Agyness is clothed. If that doesn't please you, there's also an interview with The Muppets's Swedish Chef . . . [SansArtifice, Starworks NY]
