Free People assembled a trio of fashion's coolest women, including Garance Doré, Lou Doillon, and Dree Hemingway, for its colorful October catalog.

Free People assembled a trio of fashion's coolest women, including Garance Doré, Lou Doillon, and Dree Hemingway, for its colorful October catalog.

While Hemingway posed for photographer Chadwick Tyler, Doré shot and interviewed Doillon in and around her home. "I like the idea of having a lot of things, and I like having houses that make people want to stay," Doillon says. The same idea extends to the Fall garments from Free People: chunky knitwear, cozy sweaters, lived-in boots, and soft denim are exactly the kinds of clothes necessary for Fall. Greg Kadel Is "Shocked and Dismayed" that Numéro Altered His Karlie Kloss Images

Photographer Greg Kadel is not pleased that one of the images he took of Karlie Kloss for Numéro magazine's October issue were altered to hide the model's ribs.

Photographer Greg Kadel is not pleased that one of the images he took of Karlie Kloss for Numéro magazine's October issue were altered to hide the model's ribs.

"It was Greg's desire to represent Karlie as she naturally is . . . slender, athletic, and beautiful," a statement from Kadel's studio reads. "That is why he released the images as he intended them to be seen by the public. He is shocked and dismayed that unbeknownst to him, Numéro took it upon themselves to airbrush over his original images. Greg stands by his original artwork and cannot stress enough that he not only was unaware of the magazine’s retouching but also finds the airbrushing of Karlie unacceptable and unnecessary."

Kadel released his photos on Monday, but by Tuesday, an image from the magazine — in which a shirtless Kloss places her hands behind her head and leans back against a wall — was leaked. The original showed Kloss's ribs, sternum, and clavicles; the magazine's version did not.

We have reached out to the editors at Numéro for their reaction to criticism of their decision to alter Kadel's images, but had not heard back as of this post. For now, a look at Kadel's original photos — and the altered image — here in the gallery.

New York City Ballet's Fall 2012 opening night, for example, brought a flurry of high-glamour looks on a host of superchic stars. Anne Hathaway, Sarah Jessica Parker, Elettra Wiedemann, Michelle Harper, and more were on hand to fete the event, as was Valentino Garavani, who looked just as dapper as ever — and just happened to design the dance company's costumes.

For the newest installment of its Real Fantasies video lookbook series, Prada casts its Fall 2012 collection in the neon glow of a distant future that takes its design cues from the past. Models — cast as "genetically perfected clones" — stalk around environments created by layering images and videos on top of each other, while ominous music plays in the background. One male model is seen wringing his hands while sitting on top of the world; later on, a woman pulls a wad of cash out of her purse and hands it to another woman in front of an ornate staircase. It's strange, yes, and thought-provoking, too.

She may be singing "Blue Velvet," but Lana Del Rey doesn't wear any of that material in the much-anticipated spot for H&M's Fall 2012 campaign. The singer does don plenty of clothes from the Swedish retailer while she's ferried around the set and in front of the camera of Johan Renck, who has created a universe for the ad that draws on the work of filmmaker David Lynch. The full ad is expected to be released on Sept. 20; for now, a sneak peek in the video below.

For an editorial titled "I'll Tumblr For Ya" in the October issue of Harper's Bazaar, Terry Richardson photographed the acrobatic stylings of Olivier Theyskens, Michael Kors, Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, and more. The full spread will be released online Sept. 14, but behind-the-scenes images are already trickling onto the magazine's Tumblr. A few of those images — featuring Wang and Altuzarra getting some serious air — in the slideshow.

Nicolas Ghesquière's Resort 2013 campaign video for Balenciaga is just as graceful and poetic as the ballet-inspired clothes he created for the season. Director Steven Meisel asked models Caroline Brach Nielsen, Liya Kebede, Meghan Collison, and Liu Wen, among others, to walk through a dusty, rubble-filled set with Connan Mockasin's "Forever Dolphin Love" playing in the background. The rough setting underscores the tough femininity of the collection. A look at those pieces in motion here, in the video.

Lily Donaldson's editorial in the Fall 2012 issue of Dossier magazine is just as inspiring as the photograph of her that graces the cover. Shot by Skye Parrott and styled by Donaldson's best friend, Emilie Kareh, the images capture Donaldson inside and outside of her home wearing pieces from Viktor & Rolf, Thakoon, and Jil Sander. The issue, which will be on newsstands this week, also promises contributions from Yayoi Kusama (of the recent Louis Vuitton collaboration), Roman Coppola, and Marianne Faithfull, among others.
