Definitely Johnny! He has such an incredible range, and is SO good at playing really strong, wild characters. Besides, he's a musician too!

I love Johnny, he is so versatile, but for some reason I believe Sacha good channel Freddie Mercury more accurately. More similarities perhaps?

I say Johnny, he's obviously an excellent actor and owns every role he plays. Plus I just can't take Sacha seriously, he's a good comedy actor, but I don't think he could do a proper role.

I agree with audreystar: Sacha looks the part, but Johnny would be the stronger actor to capture Mercury's character.

I'd be awesome if Johnny was playing him, but I'm intriged to see if Sascha can pull off playing him or not!

Before I read the blog, when I just saw the title, I immediately thought of SBC - he could look JUST like him! I hope he can do more serious roles, and I think this could be his chance to prove that. As delicious as Johnny is, I just don't see him playing Freddie.

Johnny has the range, SBC has the looks. Let's see if Freddie Prinze Jr has some acting chops.

I will wait and see if he can really do it. I voted for johny though. I think he's such a terrific actor.

Sacha may look more like Freddie, but Johnny's the better actor. He should get the role most definitely.

Personally if i could have anyone play freddie mercury it would be the fabulously talented John Galliano, even though hes not an actor i just think his all around natural flamboyancy and brilliance would be reflected, and there is a resemblance no?

I knew this was probably not true considering that it came from the UK's Daily Mirror...but...as per Brianmay.com...there are no talks about Sacha Baron Cohen playing Freddie anytime soon..but... I can totally see why people might be trying to throw that out there...however...the idea that Johnny Depp would be doing it has been put out there but there seems not to be any actual plans anytime soon to do any such movie...at least...that's what they say... (sorry Im A HUGE Queen fan!!)

I really can't see anyone portraying Freddie well, but I'm so Queen obsessed that I'm probably not open to the idea of anyone playing him at all. I agree with koreniebear that whoever they get just shouldn't screw it up, which I think is a real possibility. As much as I love Johnny Depp, I can't see him as Freddie. And SBC has the looks but I'm not sure he's got the goods beyond that. Freddie was so much more than a look, and he'll be a tough one for anyone to pull off.

SBC should, if he can make it dramatic.

even tho johnny depps got the talent in acting, ive herd sasca speak and hes pretty bright and does have alot of talent so i think he would b a really good freddy, plus he looks like him more

i'm a bit torn. i like the idea of the love child of SBC and Johnny to play the part! you'd get the exact look down with the amazing acting skills!

btw, SBC went to Oxford, so yes, he does have some smarts! Frankly, anyone that can make Borat so freakin offensive and yet lovable is a genius!

also, the John Galliano suggestion is another great idea...he definately would capture Freddie's essence.

if you are going for similar looks i say sbc...however johnny depp is super talented and will be able to nail the role! i miss freddie mercury!

Relax now.... MTV News (4 May 07) confirms there is no substance in the rumour that "Borat" star will play Freddie Mercury in a Queen musical biopic.

"Absolutely untrue," the actor's publicist told MTV News. "Pure hokum."

An unidentified source had told the Daily Mirror "Filmmakers are working flat out to get the best possible script. Sacha loves the idea he can get away with playing Freddie after modeling Borat's look on him".

i think that the part should be played by johnny depp, although he may find it difficult playing the gay role:/
but i dont know he is a great actor and my fav actor and freddie is my idol so i think it should be my fav singer to be played by my fav actor and if johnny gets the role its happy days in my opinion but i dont mind who plays fred im still going to watch it!!!
