What's Your Favorite Daytime Soap Opera?

The news that Guiding Light is ending (after 72 years on radio and TV!) made me think about the staying power of soap operas. Now it's a bit of a cheesy cliche that the stories just keep going and going and the actors get replaced and nothing ever ends on soaps, but in some ways, there's something comforting about that.

In a poll last year, many of you answered that you do follow some daytime soap operas, so which one — currently on television — is your favorite? And what keeps you tuned into that particular soap?

I feel like I'm losing a close friend with the end of Guiding Light. For the life of me I cannot understand why another network has not picked this show up. I've been a loyal fan since 1975 and truly hope I will see some, if not most, of the great actors within this show on another soap. So sad!!!

Too bad GL is ending. I wanted to see where the relationship between Olivia and Natalia was going to go. My favorite US soap is Y&R because the writing is on point and they tend to not fall into the same soap cliches and the acting is great. Besides that I enjoy Asian dramas.

About 15 years ago I watched As the World Turns and Days of Our Lives but since then I haven't watched any.

Y&R!! Nothing comes close to it - great cast, great writing. It's in a class of its own.

As the World Turns for me! Usually it's fairly realistic though lately it's been taking a weird turn. My Mom watches The Bold and the Beautiful, but it's pretty much everyone sleeping with/marrying everyone else, and I can't handle all that.

I DVR The Young and The Restless everyday. I have watched it since I was about 3 or 4. I am honestly sad about Guiding Light. The show is one of the longest running TV shows ever and it became a victim of the recession.

Well, I grew up with my mom loving The Young & the Restless and my older cousins loving General Hospital, so I watched those shows a lot as a kid. In high school, my best friend and I watched Days sometimes, but now, I pretty much hate this type of show. I think they're so lame!

General Hospital; I have watched every episode since November 2002 (though my memory of every story is iffy,lol.) I love the show though sometimes I get annoyed at silly storylines however it is still my favorite. Occassionally, I tune it for One Life To Live but All My Children is pathetic; Erica gets on my last nerve (and WTF was with that prison break story?!) I won't miss Guilding Light, the acting was (IMO) horrible.

one life to live got sucked into summer 2006 when i had long late lunch breaks and cristian and evangeline were togther, and now tht he's hooking up with layla i am so back into it

General Hospital! Mainly because of Spinelli - he is hilarious! I also love that there is never reruns, and you can usually just pick it up at any time and be able to figure out what's going on.

My old "show" was Days of Our Lives. Haven't seen it in years, but I am positive that if I checked in now, the older characters would still look exactly the same, the younger characters would be the same age as they were 10 years ago but be portrayed by different actors, and the plotlines, pretty much the same.

NONE, my sister dvr's All My Children (since she was a kid), I as a child was forced to watch that crap. My fiance and all his family love General Hospital, why I have no clue I couldn't sit through one episode.

I used to love Passions even though it had the most ridiculous storylines before it moved to direct tv and was cancelled. I also like Days of Our Lives and catch that sometimes when I am not in school.

I started watching Days when I was maybe like 10 or so... when Marlena got possessed. I eventually stopped watching it (I think it was in the summertime when the Marlena possession was on) cause my vacation ended and I had to go back to school. I started watching it AGAIN in high school/college for a few years. It takes to much of a commitment to follow a daytime soap.

No I've never gotten into them... I was forced to watch a bit of what I think was General Hospital when I was in the doctor's waiting room the other day... the acting is astonishingly bad.

I used to watch all the CBS soaps with my grandma, but I've always had a special place in my heart for Guiding Light.

I grew up with All My Children! My mom watched it when I was little and I've been hooked ever since. Love that show!

I watched Guiding Light since I was 8 (now 23). My mom watched it since SHE was 8. This is a very sad ending. ;(

I used to love Passions in high school. My best friend and I would rush home to catch the lst 1/2 hour of it and discuss it endlessly, even though the storylines moved so slow that if you were to miss 2 months of it, you could pick right up where you left off.

I've been watching General Hospital since High School. I stopped once I started working but now Soap Net plays it every night and has a weekend marathon. If I catch the Friday episode each weeks it's easy to stay caught up with the story
