What's Buzzworthy: Your Favorite Teacher Movies
For last week's Buzzworthy challenge — inspired by the new Hilary Swank movie Freedom Writers — I asked you guys to bookmark your favorite tearjerker teacher movies, wherein extraordinary teachers inspire troubled youth. The results were also nothing short of extraordinary, because until now, I never realized how many teacher movies there were, from Blackboard Jungle to Lean on Me. Here are some of my favorite picks from BuzzSugar readers.
Half Nelson, found by Arianell, who writes "This indie film got great reviews, and deservedly so. Ryan Gosling of The Notebook is compelling as a middle school teacher facing down a lot of demons."
Teachers, found by Shellley, who says "Teachers was, for me, the ultimate teacher movie. Seriously, Ralph Macchio, Laura Dern. It was classic 80s."
Akeelah and the Bee, found by Linda McP, who calls it "another great film about teaching and mentoring, about encouraging an underachieving student to find and use her talents."

Mr. Holland's Opus, found by Yiddidea. A disgruntled composer urges high-school students to love music, while they, in turn, inspire him to write again.
To Sir With Love, found by Swwonder and Padraigin, who says this Sidney Poitier classic "never fails to make me cry."
Dead Poets Society, found by Yiddidea. This movie has a surplus of cute preppy guys and inspiring professorial speeches by Robin Williams.
