The Dark Knight Rises

Director Christopher Nolan brings his Batman trilogy to a stunning conclusion with The Dark Knight Rises. Christian Bale reprises his role as the masked vigilante who must break out of reclusion to again fight for the safety of Gotham. This time he's battling against Bane (Tom Hardy), a madman who has motivated a whole army to fight against the city's upper class. The film earned accolades not only for its A-list cast (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, and Anne Hathaway all join), but also for its tight storytelling and jaw-dropping visuals. The DVD contains a featurette called "The Journey of Bruce Wayne."

The Odd Life of Timothy Green

Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton star as a couple unable to conceive, who magically find the son they've always wanted has appeared to have literally grown in their backyard. Though they're initially confused, they embrace Timothy, who is ambitious, talented, and contains all the qualities they could have hoped for. The story is cute but its also unavoidably schmaltzy and is likely to trigger tears form viewers both old and young. The DVD includes a music video from Glen Hansard and deleted scenes.

Men in Black 3

Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back and in top shape 15 years after the original Men in Black. The partners are now tasked with defeating Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement), an escaped convict bent on exacting revenge on the man who put him there: K. In order to save his partner, J travels back to the '60s, where he encounters a younger (and somewhat softer) K, played by Josh Brolin. It's a witty, welcome reminder of why everyone loved the first film. DVD extras include a gag reel, a making-of featurette, and a music video by Pitbull.

Lawless

Shia LaBeouf, Jason Clarke, and Tom Hardy star as bootlegging brothers during the Prohibition era. Almost as soon as they set up shop, their American dream turns into a gangster story as their business catches the eye of a lawman (Guy Pearce). The film isn't short on graphic violence, but it also features a couple of love stories and its share of unexpectedly funny moments. Mia Wasikowska and Jessica Chastain also star in the period drama. Extras include commentary, two featurettes, a Willie Nelson music video, and deleted scenes.

Brave

Pixar's latest introduces Merida (voiced by Kelly Macdonald), a rebellious princess intent on changing her destiny. Though her traditional Irish family would like her to marry and fall in line with her royal duties, the strong-willed teenager would rather choose her own path. Merida's conflicted relationship with her mother is at the core of the story, and though the film is enjoyable, it's a little predictable and isn't quite as imaginative as some other Pixar films. The DVD includes director commentary and two short films: "La Luna" and "The Legend of Mordu."

Savages

Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson star as Chon and Ben, two ambitious small-time drug dealers happily sharing the affections of O (Blake Lively). When a drug queenpin (Salma Hayek) notices the two are taking a slice of her sales, she offers them an ultimatum: sell their business to her or face the consequences. Ben and Chon opt to maintain their operation but live to regret it when O is kidnapped. Oliver Stone's high-stakes tale is visually breathtaking and a fun take on modern drugddealers, but squeamish viewers should beware of the graphic violence. The DVD comes with director commentary, deleted scenes, and a making-of featurette.

The Campaign

Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis square off as a couple of dim-witted candidates in the political ring in The Campaign. Cam Brady (Ferrell) is set for another term as a congressman, but he gets some unexpected competition when small-town guy Marty Huggins (Galifianakis) is persuaded to run against him — but soon gets in over his head. Over-the-top hijinks abound when the two set out on the campaign trail. Though the leads are great performers independently, this movie doesn't quite live up to its comedic potential. The DVD comes with a gag reel, deleted scenes, and an improvisation roll.

Safety Not Guaranteed

A pair of journalists (Aubrey Plaza and Jake Johnson) investigate an ad in the newspaper seeking a companion for time travel. They discover the man on the other end of it, a strange and paranoid supermarket clerk (Mark Duplass) who is genuinely hoping to find someone to travel with. Though the journalists begin with skepticism, their opinions change as they observe the man. Plaza balances her trademark sardonic wit with endearing sensitivity, while Johnson gives a sophisticated performance as well. Extras include two featurettes about the making of the movie.

Magic Mike

Mike dreams of a career beyond stripping, but his love for the party lifestyle makes it difficult for him to grow up. That changes, however, when he befriends the sister (Cody Horn) of his young protegé (Alex Pettyfer). Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, and Joe Manganiello also star in the scandalously fun dramedy. Extras include making-of featurettes and extended dance sequences.

Moonrise Kingdom

Wes Anderson's latest has a love struck Boy Scout (Jared Gilman) running away with the daughter (Kara Hayward) of two quirky lawyers (Billy Murray and Frances McDormand). Despite a search party led by a staunch scoutmaster (Edward Norton) and the town's sheriff (Bruce Willis), the two adolescents continue to elude the adults. Though the residents are isolated on a small island, the retro 1960s vibe still saturates the film's aesthetic. Many elements might be familiar to Anderson fans, but it's still a pleasure to watch. Featurettes, including a tour around the set with Bill Murray, are included on the DVD.

That's My Boy

Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg join forces for a broad, obnoxious comedy about father-son bonding. Donnie (Sandler) shows up days before his estranged son's (Andy Samberg) wedding, hoping his successful kid will be the key to solving his financial issues. Over the course of the weekend, the two reconnect, but not before a series of gross-out stunts and hard-to-watch bodily fluid gags. Leighton Meester and Vanilla Ice also star. DVD extras include a gag reel, deleted scenes, and three featurettes.

Prometheus

Ridley Scott's terrifyingly good Prometheus is the latest in his Alien series, and with nightmare-inducing visuals, it's an installment audiences won't soon forget. In the future, a team of researchers (including Noomi Rapace and Logan Marshall-Green) head to a mysterious planet to find out if there's a link to human origins. Soon, people start acting strange, creatures appear, and blood begins flowing. It's science-fiction horror at its best, and Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron also give chilly but impressive performances. The DVD comes with commentary by Scott and deleted and alternate scenes.

Rock of Ages

Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and more stars headline the fun but inescapably cheesy film adaptation of the hit Broadway play. On her journey to become a star, Sherrie (Hough) meets Drew (Diego Boneta) and the two pursue their dreams and embark on a romance filled with rock 'n' roll music. The movie features Cruise playing against type as a rock star, as well as hits from '80s legends like Journey, Poison, and Bon Jovi. The actors are clearly having a ball performing, but off the stage, the story all comes off as highly produced karaoke. The DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette.

Dark Shadows

Tim Burton teams up with Johnny Depp once again to revive the 1960s TV series Dark Shadows. Depp plays Barnabas Collins, a cursed vampire who is awakened after centuries of sleep. Now in the 1970s, he returns to his beloved mansion to find his wacky descendants living there and must help them restore the family business to the bustling empire it once was. Despite the promising combination of Depp and Burton, the film feels more scattered than inspired. DVD extras include deleted scenes and a making-of featurette.

People Like Us

Slick businessman Sam (Chris Pine) gets the surprise of a lifetime when his father dies and he discovers he has a sister (Elizabeth Banks) he never knew about. Though Sam is in dire straits for the cash he hoped to inherit, he tracks down his half-sister, Frankie, and realizes that with a rowdy kid to look after, she might need the break even more than he does. The semi-autobiographical story by Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek) is a bit hard to believe, and though Banks gives a great performance, it doesn't save the plot from becoming entirely too soapy. The DVD comes with commentary by the cast and by Kurtzman.
