Breaking Dawn Part 2

Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson)'s saga comes to an end in this lackluster conclusion to the Twilight films. After giving birth to their half-human/half-vampire child, Renesmee, Bella makes a fast recovery and adjusts to her new vampire prowess. Soon enough, the entire Cullen clan must face up to the Volturi, who suspect Renesmee was illegally made into a vampire child. The battle scene is a thrilling climax, but unless you're a Twilight devotee, there's not much else to see here. The DVD comes with several featurettes, a music video, and director commentary.

Flight

Denzel Washington is up for an Oscar for his performance as Whip, a pilot who miraculously lands his plane during a catastrophe, in Robert Zemeckis's dramatic disaster movie. Though he saves most of the flight's passengers, questions arise when it comes to light that Whip may have been under the influence while commanding the plane. The initial crash sequence may be traumatizing for those prone to flight fear, but once the action ends, the dramatic story gives way for Washington to impress in a subtle performance that can be difficult to watch at times. The DVD comes with featurettes and highlights from a cast Q&A.

Celeste & Jesse Forever

Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones star as exes who still share a special connection after their marriage has dissolved. Their friends (including Ari Graynor and Eric Christian Olsen) find their relationship to be borderline inappropriate, but Celeste and Jesse are determined to stay best friends, until certain circumstances force them to decide to get back together or end their relationship for good. The movie is charming and relatable, and the leads are as endearing as the film's complementary soundtrack.

Seven Psychopaths

Colin Farrell is Marty, a struggling screenwriter trying to come up with the next big script. Though he's on the straight-and-narrow, Marty gets dragged into a web of criminal activity by his eccentric friend Bill (Sam Rockwell). Bill and his partner (Christopher Walken) run a dog-stealing racket, and when they steal from the wrong guy (Woody Harrelson), the consequences turn out to be dire — also, pretty funny. It's a wacky premise, but it makes for a good time, especially thanks to Walken's performance. Featurettes are included with the DVD.

Hotel Transylvania

Adam Sandler leads an all-star voice cast as Count Dracula, founder of a hidden getaway for supernatural creatures. On his daughter Mavis's (Selena Gomez's) 118th birthday, he invites a whole host of monsters up to the resort to celebrate. Things take a turn when a human (Andy Samberg) shows up at the front door and falls for Mavis. The family film is imaginative enough for kids, but adults may be underwhelmed. The DVD comes with a minimovie, deleted scenes, commentary, and a music video.

End of Watch

Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña are partners in this gritty, realistic police thriller from Training Day screenwriter David Ayer. Set on the dangerous streets of Los Angeles, the movie follows the officers on their daily rounds as they become immersed in the center of a deadly drug ring. Gyllenhaal and Peña are both excellent in the film, and though their performances are worth seeing, the faint of heart (and those who get queasy with handheld camera footage) might want to avoid this raw drama. The DVD includes deleted scenes, director commentary, and several featurettes.

The Paperboy

Director Lee Daniels adapted this mystery novel for the big screen, with star power from Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Matthew McConaughey, and John Cusack. Investigative reporter Ward (McConaughey) enlists the help of his brother Jack (Efron) to prove a death-row inmate (Cusack) has been falsely accused of murdering the local sheriff. Kidman picked up SAG and Golden Globe nominations for her sultry performance as the woman in love with the inmate. A featurette, interviews, and the theatrical trailer come with the DVD.

Taken 2

Badass dad Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) is at it again, this time fighting for his own life. Two years after his daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) was kidnapped overseas, the father of one of Kim's assailants returns to exact vengeance for his murdered son. He takes Bryan and ex-wife (Famke Janssen) hostage in Istanbul, and Kim must sharpen her own set of skills to help her parents escape. Though Neeson is spry as ever, the sequel to 2008's sleeper hit is sloppy and overly silly. DVD extras include an alternate ending, deleted scenes, and making-of featurettes.

To Rome With Love

Die-hard Woody Allen fans might not find the director's latest offering up to snuff, but his signature print is all over this sweet but uneven ensemble piece. The movie features four interweaving stories full of stars; Woody Allen stars as an opera director; Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, and Greta Gerwig form a love triangle; Penelope Cruz is an exotic prostitute, and Roberto Benigni is a man enjoying his 30 seconds of fame. Some of the stories are better than others, but Rome is as beautiful as ever. The DVD comes with one featurette.

Frankenweenie

Director Tim Burton makes a triumphant return to animation with Frankenweenie, the story of a young boy and his beloved pet — with a twist. Victor loves Sparky more than anything, and when Sparky passes away, budding scientist Victor miraculously brings a strangely altered version of the pup back to life, much to the horrified surprise of Victor's relatives and peers. The heartwarming tale is perfect for Burton-loving parents to share with their kids. The DVD copy incudes a music video and a Frankenweenie touring exhibit.

House at the End of the Street

Jennifer Lawrence headlines House at the End of the Street, a jumpy but underwhelming horror-thriller. Elissa (Lawrence) has just moved to a new town with her mother, Sarah (Elisabeth Shue). The two share a rocky relationship, and when her mother expresses concern over Elissa's getting close with the boy next door (Max Thieriot), it only draws Elissa closer to him. Sarah has reason to be suspicious: the boy's parents were murdered in cold blood by his sister. The film has some great twists, but it's bogged down by a slow start and a lame main character. The DVD comes with an unrated version.

Pitch Perfect

Anna Kendrick stars as a college freshman who reluctanty joins a female a capella group. Though she's initially skeptical about joining leaders Chloe (Brittany Snow) and Aubrey (Anna Camp) and their medley of quirky peers in singing dated songs, she eventually comes around. Soon she realizes her knack for song mixing may benefit the team and help them defeat the competing boys' a capella group. Though some may find the comedy to be formulaic, the songs are enjoyable, as are supporting actors Rebel Wilson and Skylar Astin. The DVD comes with deleted scenes and a couple featurettes.

Trouble With the Curve

Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, and Justin Timberlake headline the impressive cast of this baseball dramedy. Gus (Eastwood) is a grumpy old baseball recruiter embarking on his last scouting trip as the clock ticks on his waning eyesight. He's begrudgingly joined by his daughter, Mickey (Adams), with whom he shares a rocky relationship. While on the road, a good-natured fellow recruiter Johnny (Justin Timberlake) takes an interest in the uptight Mickey. Trouble With the Curve tries to go in so many directions but never fully commits, and though it has its moments, the end result is boring and cheesy. The DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette with Adams and Timberlake.

Ted John (Mark Wahlberg) and Ted are as close as best friends can be.

Ted

John (Mark Wahlberg) and Ted are as close as best friends can be. The two have grown up together, but while John has physically matured, his friendship with Ted, who happens to be a talking teddy bear, has kept his emotional and mental growth stunted. John's girlfriend, Lori (Mila Kunis), is left with no other option than to give him an ultimatum: it's her or the hard-partying bear. Seth MacFarlane's live-action debut is chock-full of raunchy laughs and '80s pop-culture references, and though the plot meanders a bit, it's funny throughout. The DVD includes a gag reel, a making-of featurette, and commentary.

The Bourne Legacy

Jeremy Renner jumps into the Bourne franchise as Aaron Cross, an agent working for the same agency Jason Bourne was once a part of. When his government program is shut down, Cross must dodge deadly assassins now targeting him while trying to find pills that have been improving his mental and physical abilities. On the way, he picks up a pretty scientist (Rachel Weisz), who is the only one who can help him find the meds. It's not as good as the other Bourne movies, but there are a few cool action sequences. The DVD comes with deleted scenes and three featurettes.
