The Weeds Cast Prepares For a "Beautiful" Season Finale

Weeds is heading into the home stretch, with its eighth and final season currently airing on Showtime.

Weeds is heading into the home stretch, with its eighth and final season currently airing on Showtime. The cast came together one last time at the network TCA to talk about the bittersweet goodbye and how the show will leave the indomitable Botwin family in the season finale come September. We were promised that the final episode will answer a lot of questions and that it was "very carefully planned," but Mary Louise-Parker added that it's a beautiful ending, even if it's not the most satisfying.

  • Creator Jenji Kohan talked about the beauty of being able to write a proper season finale, since they got the news about the cancellation before the final episode was written. She stressed that the show is "ultimately about a family," and she hopes that the finale reflects that sentiment.
  • Weeds is known for its epic cliffhangers, but don't expect the finale to leave us hanging. Kohan said that it's more of a wrap-up than a cliffhanger.
  • Though Elizabeth Perkins has said she won't appear in the final season, you can plan on seeing lots of other familiar faces from over the years popping up in the episodes to come. Kohan said, "We wanted to bring back everyone we could, and everyone who said yes, we're bringing back."
  • The whole cast was pretty emotional, but Parker only had the highest praise when discussing the final episode, saying that it was "beautifully written" among other things. She said, "I just cried when I read it. I think it's beautiful. I don't know if she [Kohan] brought things together in a way that was really satisfying because it's an end. But she managed to bring things together in a way that's not a total happily-ever-after thing, but there was hope in it, and some sort of benediction."
  • Hunter Parrish also got a little choked up, sharing his favorite Weeds memories (he said his favorite scene is back in season one when Nancy is watching her sex tape with Judah), and even accidentally referred to Parker as "Mom" on the panel. It was clear that the love was mutual; Parker gushed about Parrish's talent in the final episode, calling it "one of the best pieces of acting I've ever seen."
  • Kohan joked about ruining Alexander Gould's childhood, as he was only 11 when the series started airing. Gould seems to have nothing but fond memories of playing Shane, though. He said, "I think I've loved every minute of playing Shane, who is such an extreme character in every sense of the word. With the show winding down, I'm just so glad to have had the experience. I think that Shane ends up in a really neat place."

Weeds Star Hunter Parrish on the Finnick Rumors and His New Chapter as a Singer-Songwriter

Hunter Parrish has grown up on the Showtime series Weeds.

Hunter Parrish has grown up on the Showtime series Weeds. Now, as the 25-year-old embarks on the show's eighth and final season, he's branching out with some new creative efforts all his own. Hunter recently released an EP called Guessing Games, a collection of heartfelt acoustic songs blending musical influences like James Taylor and John Mayer. On the acting front, Hunter's not hiding his desire to play Finnick Odair in Catching Fire after losing out on the role of Peeta to Josh Hutcherson. Hunter, who says he's a big fan of the book series, told us he'll "be there" in a heartbeat if he's offered the role. In the meantime, he weighed in on where he hopes things end for his Weeds character, Silas. Check out our chat with Hunter, and find Guessing Games on iTunes now.

Hunter Parrish Talks Weeds Season 7, Cancellation Rumors, and Always Being Shirtless

Weeds kicks off another season of debauchery on June 27, as we fast forward three years into the future where the Botwins are now doing business in New York.

Weeds kicks off another season of debauchery on June 27, as we fast forward three years into the future where the Botwins are now doing business in New York. I recently chatted with Hunter Parrish, who plays Silas Botwin on the show, about what kind of shenanigans are in store when Nancy and the gang return to Showtime. He talked about how Silas has changed over the years, what it's like working with guest stars like Martin Short, and whether or not Silas will get a new lady love.

BuzzSugar: What can you tell us about the new season of Weeds that you're particularly excited about?
Hunter Parrish: There's actually a lot that's exciting. We spent all of last season traveling, going all over the place, and this time we're in New York. Well, actually, filming in LA, but getting to do a New York season. Silas gets more heavily involved in the weed business, so that's been really exciting.

BS: This season takes place three years later. How have Silas and Shane grown up?
HP: It's pretty weird; I showed up for the first day on set, and Alexander [Gould] had these big mutton chops on his face. I can't even grow the smallest sideburns! But he's got these huge sideburns, and Silas dyes his hair, so we look a little older, a little different. But it's cool; it's exciting. For the first time on the show I'm playing my own age. I've always been playing two or three years younger, so it's cool to have the maturity and sophistication.

BS: Silas has had a pretty crazy life; how do you relate to him?
HP: Well, my mom doesn't sell weed, so that's different. At least I don't know that she sells weed; she might I guess. It's funny because at the beginning of the series, I said in a few interviews how similar we were, and I think we did start similar. But because of what's happened with the characters and where the writers have taken it, his relationship with his mom is so incredibly difficult, and he found out that who he thought was his dad his whole life isn't actually his dad. He's struggling with things that I can't even begin to understand. So there's a darkness to him that my personal life doesn't really have. So we've actually grown quite dissimilar as the seasons have gone on. But we still share, which I think is the biggest thing, is the same heart and passion for life, and the people around me. And he's really good about that, and really trying to love first.

BS: Speaking of putting love first, is Silas going to get a new love interest this season?
HP: I keep asking them about that! I'm pretty much shirtless in every episode, but none of those include a sex scene or any sort of love scene. So I'm not quite sure that's coming up or if I should expect that. But so far there is no love for Silas.

New Pics: Weeds Season Seven Heads to NYC!

The last time we checked in with the Botwin family on Weeds, Nancy was being taken away in handcuffs while her boys (Andy, Shane, and Slias) were jetting off to Europe.

The last time we checked in with the Botwin family on Weeds, Nancy was being taken away in handcuffs while her boys (Andy, Shane, and Slias) were jetting off to Europe. The audience was left to spend the next year wondering how Nancy would wiggle her way out of a murder confession, and now we've got our first clues! In these freshly released pictures from season seven, we see Nancy in what appears to be a penitentiary — jumpsuit and all — but she's also spotted on the streets of New York. After spending most of the seasons in California, I'm intrigued by the idea of seeing what kind of trouble Nancy can stir up on the East Coast. Looks like some big changes may be on the horizon but there's one thing that hasn't changed: Nancy's signature iced coffee. Check out all the pics before the premiere on June 27.

What Is the Best Cable TV Comedy of 2010?

Major networks are always churning out sitcoms, but sometimes you have to dig a little deeper to get to the really funny stuff.

Major networks are always churning out sitcoms, but sometimes you have to dig a little deeper to get to the really funny stuff. Let's face it: on cable, writers are able to get away with more indecency and dark humor (prime example: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia). These series definitely pushed the proverbial envelope this year and had us laughing hard. Which is your 2010 favorite?
