There's a lot more happening in Perfect Sense than what we can garner from the film's first preview. It starts out as a seemingly standard love story: Eva Green plays a scientist who is tired of dating after choosing too many jerks — that is, until a handsome chef (Ewan McGregor) charms his way to her heart through her stomach. Unfortunately, their sweet affair quickly gets mucked up when Green's character asks McGregor's if he has any secrets.
Though it's unclear what exactly is happening in the trailer, a little bit of research sheds light on the other side of the story. As their romance is blossoming, an epidemic is taking the world around them by storm. It starts when one man starts crying uncontrollably out of the blue and is promptly left with no sense of smell. Soon this affliction that affects first the emotions and then the senses begins to spread inexplicably, affecting lives all over the globe.
The love story meets sci-fi thriller is an interesting enough premise to put Perfect Sense on my list of must-see Sundance movies, but to see the trailer for yourself just keep reading.
