You were all pretty split on your feelings about Channing Tatum, but we can all agree that the actor has made a name for himself as the muscle-bound sensitive guy. He gets even deeper into that archetype in Dear John, an adaption from the Nicholas Sparks novel where he plays the love interest of Amanda Seyfried.

The two fall for each other one Summer while Seyfried's character Savannah is home from college and Tatum's John is home on leave. When they have to leave each other and return to their respective obligations, they begin writing letters to keep in touch, hence the title.
Normally I would be holding my nose for this schlockfest, but I can't deny the talent of director Lasse Hallstrom, the charisma of the two leads, or the major soft spots I have for The Notebook and A Walk to Remember — movies made from Sparks books. And there's another bonus: Six Feet Under's Richard Jenkins as John's dad. To watch the trailer and decide if it's going to be a cheesy mess or a heart-tugger, just read more.

Aw..I'm a sucker for these types of movies.
1CHANNING TATUM IS SO HOT
2I love Amanda Seyfried. But I'm so sick of Nicholas Sparks. I know the ending and I haven;t even read the book: I bet either he dies at war or for some stupid reason she dies.
3i read this book and that's not how the book ends it actually ends different from what you said. if i were you i would read the book it was amazing and the ending will surprise you trust me i read it
4i think i'll watch it only b/c i'm a college girl dating a military guy, so i feel like i could sort of relate to the story, even if it's not completely similar to mine.
5I can see this being a tear-jerker, mostly because thinking back to all of Nicholas Sparks' books made movies (Message in a Bottle, The Guardian, & Nights in Rodanthe), you can only imagine how it'll end. I'm definitely intrigued!
6Eh, a little too...Nicholas Sparks for me lol but what was that song playing in the trailer? Anybody know?
7Penguins268: I thought the exact same thing. It's Snow Patrol "Set the Fire to the Third Bar." Haunting and gorgeous:)
8Dude, honestly, I've read this book, and I personally think it's one of Nicholas Sparks's best books. It's different from the others, definitely. I cannot wait for this movie... It looks GOOD.
9This is definitely one of his best books, and I can't wait for the movie. I can relate to the military aspect, too. Casting seems to fit well.
10I love Amanda Seyfried, Channing is not a bad choice either, but I'm a bit over Nicholas Sparks.
I hate all the dying in his movies.
Nights in Rodanthe was one of the stupidest movies I have ever seen...i couldn't help but laugh at the lameeee ending.
11i read this book a long time ago, and Channing is a good fit for John. not sure about Amanda, but i like her anyways.
nicholas sparks books are sooo good but the movies are always lacking (except for the notebook). my hopes aren't too high...
12I love these movies...and will so see this. I'm a sucker..
13The ending of this book was so sad. It was definitely one of his best.
14I definitely want to see this movie!
15I've read the book and I like the ending...amazingly touching! I'm a sucker for Nicholas Sparks books.
16I will see anything Channing Tatum is in just because he's so nice to look at, ha!
17I like Nicholas Sparks but after seeing A Walk to Remember completely mangled on screen, I'm not sure I can take another movie. Plus I thought he had a movie coming out with Miley Cyrus in it. Sparks overload.
18Lasse Hallstrom is a brilliant director, this should be good.
19Man..I'm crying...A lot!
20A Walk to Remember was decent; The Notebook made me want to go out and kill geese or heron or whatever the h*ll those stupid birds were. I will never look at Ryan Gosling the same way ever again. That movie was horrific.
Anyway, this, at least, looks better than that and better than A Walk. Chanhing Tatum is unattractive with Popeye's cute cauliflower ears and nice washboard abs and he can't act his way out of a paper bag. But that doesn't seem to be a prerequisite any more, so he should do well.
21I loved A Walk to Remember movie and book. I love The Notebook movie so much I decided to not read the book. The more recent Nicholas Sparks-based movies haven't interested me. But I have the Dear John novel somewhere on my bookshelf (a gift). Maybe I'll read it first and decide about the movie. I'm not sure if Mr. Tatum has sold me on his acting chops though.
22Wow, they really don't seem to have ANY chemistry together...they should play brother and sister or something. But I still want to see it...
23I don't want to see this movie at all.
24Channing Tatum is not my type
I think this movie is going to be good.
25I just finished the book. I loved it, loved it. Can't wait to see the movie. The ending was definitely not what i was expecting.
26i loved the book. ending i hated. i liked it from the beginning to the middle but when it gets to part 2.. i don't want to ruin the ending for anyone who hasn't read it so I'm just gunna say everything in the book started going downhill from there. sad book, but good. CAN NOT wait to go see the movie.
27i absolutely loved the book, its definitely my favorite, but the ending broke my heart. its not what i was expecting and im disappointed with it. i can't wait to see this movie, channing tatum is amazing and a good fit for john
28I loved the book.. I think Channing Tatum is a good fit for John..Amanda Seyfried will make a good Savanna, but she had brown hair in the book... I think that they had good chemistry in the trailer.. I've only read two of his books: The Notebook and Dear John.. I didnt like the Notebook very much.. I thought the movie was way better than the book.. I'm very excited about watching this movie..
29I LOVE Channing Tatum. I think he will be perfect for John. I am tired of Nicholas Sparks unhappy endings for his books. You think that one of his books would have a happy ending but nope. I like reading because it helps me take my mind off of things and relax. Well it doesn't help when the book upsets me so much that I can't stop thinking about it. I hope Nicholas Sparks writes a sequel with a happy ending!
30ilove this movie i cant wait to see it i cried in the previews and ill definitely cry in the movie i love all of Nicholas spark's movies...cant wait
