Video: Taylor Swift Debuts Her Kanye West Song, "Innocent," at the VMAs — Love It or Over It?

Taylor Swift sang a brand-new track from her upcoming album, Speak Now, at the VMAs just minutes ago. The song was widely reported to be about the Kanye West incident from last year's show and the theme was confirmed when her performance started with footage from the famous interruption. It was the worldwide debut of the song and Taylor brought her trademark tender voice and heartfelt lyrics to the act. Taylor Swift shouldn't have sung this, cause most people forgot about the whole Kanye West incident and now she reminded evryone about it again! She should've kept her terrible, off vocal voice shut!

I'm sorry, but this entire thing strikes me as utterly ridiculous. While her music is not my preference, I can appreciate that Taylor Swift is a very talented young lady. But this performance almost sickens me. Consider the many tragedies going on today; flooding in Pakistan, Gulf Oil spill, war in the Middle East, the list goes on. Why are we choosing to focus all this drama on a publicity stunt that occured a year ago? Last time I checked, Taylor's career was certainly not ruined by the "ordeal". I understand that as a songwriter; she writes about her experiences, but I hate how dramatic this performance is made out to be (the thing I found most annoying was the "flashback" at the beginning). I guess what I'm saying is there are many more people across the world that are far more deserving of public sympathy.

I'm a Taylor Swift fan - I think she is so talented and graceful. However, I didn't like THIS song at all and I normally like all of her songs...I have her CD and listen all the way through. This was just a stunt that confronted a stale topic. She should have left it alone bc she handled it so well when it actually happened. Kanye got his, looking like a foolish jerk in front of the world.

Yeah, it seems like everyone on here is just commenting on the fact that it was a 'tacky response' to Kanye, and that they hate the media hype. ...no one is actually commenting on the content of the song... That aside, I was pleasantly surprised with it. I think it did the opposite of perpetuating drama. It was a song vocalizing that she forgives him, and that its ok to make mistakes (even at 32). I actually thought it was really touching, and agree with an above commenter about the level of maturity being uncharacteristically high for Taylor. Kanye's song wasn't exactly earth-shattering. It was almost an ode to his douchbaggery. If I were him, Taylor's song would have really prompted a serious life reevaluation. She's so much younger, and yet seems much wiser.

Everyone who wants to talk about her not hitting some notes should back off a bit, at least she is actually singing. That being said, I am not a Taylor Swift fan. I find most of her music disgustingly little girl dreamy in an unrealistic way that hurts me. Maybe that's just life experience talking, I just don't like romantic dreams. I did however like this song, perhaps because it's different than what I've heard and I do like forgiveness.

Taylor is a songwriter-Hello that's what songwriters do they sing about their experiences and emotions.She actually is saying that she forgives and is over it and eventually everyone else will finally let it go. Its not her or him that is dragging it out.Its the media.She was over it awhile ago-the song was written after that last vma--When she says he is still growing up--well how is it that wrong? He embarrassed her in front of Millions of people LIVE.If this was anyone else or your award or even Kayne's award we would still be hearing about it.She wrote a sweet song and has handled the whole issue with grace.She isn't playing a victim she hardly even comments on the issue.

While the performance may have been a bit overly somber, I think the lyrics showed a level of maturity that's often missing from pop songs. It isn't exactly the Dixie Chicks "Not Ready to Make Nice", but it's still a heartfelt song about seeing the good in someone, despite their mistakes, which ain't a bad thing.

So over this. I didn't like the song, much too serious, and she didn't really sing it that well. She was hitting bad notes and just not a great performance.
