Are you ready for your second Nicholas Sparks movie preview in as many months? (Last month's was the romance Dear John.) Here it is: The Last Song stars Miley Cyrus (cue The Soup's "It's Miley!" sound bite) as a girl who's dropped off at the home of her estranged father to spend the Summer. Obviously she doesn't want to be there, obviously she falls for a local boy, and obviously she and her father end up bonding.
You couldn't call me a Miley fan, but I do love Greg Kinnear, who plays her well-meaning father. From the trailer, the movie looks very sweet and very schlocky — which is exactly how Sparks usually does it. Interestingly, Sparks was commissioned to write both the screenplay and novel simultaneously, with Cyrus in mind. While I don't know that I'll be rushing to the theater for this one, it's probably something you'd find me secretly Netflixing later on; I'm kind of a sucker for the addictive cheesiness of a Sparks movie.

I honestly don't think I could stand watching Miley Cyrus for 2 hours, even though I love nostalgia evoking summer movies.
1It sounds a lot like the Hannah Montana movie that she just did. She went home not wanting to falls in love with a local boy reconnects with family nad friends etc.
2I am a sucka for Sparks so I know I will watch it regardless.
Does someone die at the end? I'm betting the dad is dying, which is why Miley's mom makes her spend the summer with him. Yeah, I'd probably rent it eventually (or better yet, secretly watch it on the netflix website!)

Now it makes sense, he was COMMISSIONED to write her into the role. That is truly unfortunate. I would most likely have seen it, had another actress--ANY other actress--been given the role.

17I have NOT liked Miley the last couple of years, she irritates me...but this looks like a good story/movie. Who knows, maybe she'll stop being a self centered (insert bad word here) and actually show acting ability.

wow... this could have been good. i agree i dont think miley has the acting potential to pull a film like this off. but who knows maybe she will prove us wrong. It doesnt matter really, all of the miley/hannah fans will make it a #1.
20i love miley yall can suck a big fat one. this movie looks amazing shes finally breaking away from the disney channel. Dont not watch this because shes in it, she might surprise you. I think she fits the role perfectly. If you wanna read a good book read burned by ellen hopkins i believe. The whole time i read that book it made me picture miley. great book right there
21I have read the book and regardless if Miley Cyrus plays the part it is going to be awsome! So who cares what people think of Miley she fits the part well. GO READ THE BOOK THEN HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY!
22Regardless if Miley Cyrus is in this movie or not it is a great book. If you would read the book you would find out it is amazing and Nicholas Sparks did an awsome job with this one. Plus Miley Cyrus fits this girl excatly. SO GO READ THE BOOK!
