9 Things the Vampire Diaries Season Finale Killed
The big Vampire Diaries season finale headline is that Nina Dobrev departed the series for good, but besides that, so much stuff actually happens in the finale. The season six ender had so many crazy events, including actual characters' deaths, but they're not the only beings to die or move on. Let's talk about the many plot twists and turns of this traumatic season finale.
Jo
One of the most tragic deaths of the finale is Jo, the first victim of Kai's bloody wedding present. We hoped she'd pull through, but by the time the finale begins, it's confirmed that she's dead on her own wedding day.
Jo's Unborn Babies
An even more tragic turn for Jo. This was dark, even for The Vampire Diaries. That's some Game of Thrones sh*t right there.
Alaric's Hope, Joy, Ability to Smile Again
See above.
A Church Full of People
Not only does Kai destroy the church, he pulls out his trump card: when he kills himself, all the members of the Gemini Coven will die too. That includes his own dad and many of his family members. So why's that his trump card? Because he had already drank some of Lily's blood and could come back as a vampire. I mean, vampire-witch.
Liv
She's one of Kai's victims, but she figures out a way to work the system. Instead of letting Tyler die too, she volunteers to let him kill her, which would trigger his werewolf curse again and heal him. Tyler does it, and damn; it's pretty gnarly to watch him clap his hands over her mouth as a mercy kill.
Kai
Good riddance. Though Kai had actually become pretty entertaining, there was no way he could be allowed to live after the unspeakable things he does on Alaric and Jo's wedding day. It seems like he's going to be truly immortal after he kills himself, becomes a vampire, and then gets bitten by Tyler as a werewolf. He can heal that, but he can't heal his head being knocked off. It's nice to know there are some failsafes in this world.
Stefan and Caroline's Platonic Relationship
Probably, that is. And logically, to be honest. This almost-there romance has been dragged out long enough. Stefan's final monologue to Caroline doesn't end with the kiss it deserves, but how can season seven start with these two going back to being just friends after that?
Elena's Presence
Yeah, yeah, yeah. She's asleep. But the convenient situation is brought about by Nina Dobrev leaving the show, therefore, you will not be seeing Elena again anytime soon.
Mystic Falls, I Guess
In the time jump that happens in the final moments, Mystic Falls looks pretty messed up. Like someone's parents went out of town, and then the town had the most epic party ever. Only the party is probably destruction and the parents (Matt and the other cops) don't know how to clean it up yet. Cliffhanger-y!
