5 Ways to Deal With Parental Peer Pressure

Kids aren't the only ones who succumb to peer pressure.
How to Deal With Parental Peer Pressure

Kids aren't the only ones who succumb to peer pressure. There are also plenty of moms and dads who look to popular trends to guide their parenting style. Laura Baron, lifestyle coach and host of VH1's You're Cut Off, says that setting limits is key when children are young so parents don't raise dependent adults. But to be the example, mom and dad need to stand strong in their beliefs so they don't end up indulging their offspring. Here are her ways to avoid falling into pressure.

TV Tonight: VH1's You're Cut Off!

VH1's You're Cut Off is basically My Super 16 for grown-ups, but with a twist.

VH1's You're Cut Off is basically My Super 16 for grown-ups, but with a twist. You have women running their rich dads into debt thanks to their thousand-dollar splurges on clothes, cars, and beyond — and as per any bratty child, they don't make any apologies for their spoiled behavior.

Enter Hollywood life coach Laura Baron to whip the girls into shape. She gets the parents to pull the plug on their free handouts, and then takes the participants through a series of everyday tasks like cooking, household cleaning, and you know, actually having a job. At the end, the girls are supposed to go into the real world with their newfound independence — but the road there is paved with temper tantrums and catfights.

The sneak peek is trashy TV at its finest. Take a look, and pay special attention to a familiar face among the women (well, somewhat familiar — she's had some plastic surgery). Yep, it's outspoken former Bachelor contestant Erica Rose. She's baaaack! Just read more

Are You More Interested in Bret Michaels Now?

Between his health troubles, his Celebrity Apprentice win, and last week's appearance on American Idol, it seems that Bret Michaels is more relevant than ever.

Between his health troubles, his Celebrity Apprentice win, and last week's appearance on American Idol, it seems that Bret Michaels is more relevant than ever. I've had a weird fascination with the guy ever since Rock of Love (what is he hiding under those cowboy hats?!), but very soon, we'll see a whole new side of the Poison star. VH1 is once again collaborating with Michaels for a reality series titled Bret Michaels: Life as I Know It, but this time we'll get to see his nurturing, paternal persona. The network aired a sneak preview of the series yesterday, which showed Michaels at home as he interacts with his two daughters — yeah, bet you didn't know he had daughters, did you? — and their mom, who is Michaels's on-again, off-again love.

Michaels is obviously trying to pump the brakes on his hard and fast lifestyle, which is probably a good thing given his hospital wake-up call, but I'm curious to see if his recent scare and subsequent appearances will translate into ratings for the show. What's your take — do you care more about Michaels given recent events?

Crocs, Jorts, and Moobs: Undateable Men Examined

Unless you're a chef, you probably shouldn't wear Crocs if you're a dude.

Unless you're a chef, you probably shouldn't wear Crocs if you're a dude. Same goes for "jorts," aka jean shorts. Also, skip the Facebook updates about how many curls you did at the gym, not to mention the baby talk. Such are the pressing issues tackled on Undateable, a five-part VH1 special that premieres Monday, May 10. Here's a sneak peek at some of the discourse on fashion faux pas:

Based on the book Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won't Be Dating or Having Sex by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle, the show features pundits like Bethenny Frankel, Ben Lee, the Jersey Shore cast, and more. TV Tonight: SpongeBob SquarePants Documentary

I can't believe it's been 10 whole years since SpongeBob SquarePants came bounding enthusiastically into our living rooms, but it's true!

I can't believe it's been 10 whole years since SpongeBob SquarePants came bounding enthusiastically into our living rooms, but it's true! To mark the occasion, tonight VH1 will air Square Roots: The Story of SpongeBob SquarePants, an original SpongeBob SquarePants TV documentary. Then, from July 17-19, Nickelodeon will air a 50-hour "event," hosted by Patchy the Pirate, which "will include an unprecedented 11 SpongeBob premieres and a top-10 countdown of celebrities' favorite SpongeBob episodes."

Here are a few more details on tonight's documentary, produced by Wordplay's Creadon O'Malley:

Commissioned by Nickelodeon to commemorate the anniversary of the series' first episode, the documentary chronicles the beloved character's journey to international pop culture icon status and showcases the series' impact on everyone from President Barack Obama, kids across the globe and San Quentin inmates who readily sing its catchy theme song. The one-hour documentary, features an opening song from Avril Lavigne and commentary from creator Steve Hillenburg, cast and crew members, industry experts, fanatics and celebrities like LeBron James, Ricky Gervais and Rosario Dawson.

Aww. I can't wait to tune in for this. Technically SpongeBob SquarePants is a kids' show, but it's so clever and witty, I actually watch it fairly regularly with my friends because it often makes me laugh way more than certain adult comedies do. I used to think Squidward was my favorite character but I also have a major soft spot for the evil schemer, Plankton.

Are you a SpongeBob fan? Do you have a favorite character or episode?

Sex

Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew — Will You Tune In?

VH1 has ordered eight episodes of a Celebrity Rehab spinoff that will attempt to clarify sex addiction, an oft-misunderstood illness.

VH1 has ordered eight episodes of a Celebrity Rehab spinoff that will attempt to clarify sex addiction, an oft-misunderstood illness. Much like the original, Sex Rehab With Dr. Drew will follow a group of people in Los Angeles who struggle with the very real addiction and its destructive side effects. VH1 really sells it with this seductive promo:

For addicts, sex isn’t even pleasurable, but rather a way to escape the pain of past loss, childhood trauma, abuse, and abandonment. Like many other addictions, their habits can cost them their jobs, their marriages, even their lives.

Well, I'm sold! Are you?

Buzz In: Who Should Get Their Own Behind the Music?

There once was a time, long before Real Housewives reruns on Bravo, where you could count on VH1's Behind the Music series to be on the air at just the moment you're too lazy to do laundry or pay bills.

There once was a time, long before Real Housewives reruns on Bravo, where you could count on VH1's Behind the Music series to be on the air at just the moment you're too lazy to do laundry or pay bills. Those were the good old days (between 1997 and 2006, to be specific) when you could learn all kinds of things about people like Leif Garrett, Billy Idol, and Red Hot Chili Peppers from the cable channel's rock documentary series.

Well now, the network is bringing the series back, and its first subject will be — yes! — Lil Wayne. Great first pick. This revamp is apparently going to "focus more on contemporary artists than the veteran talent of previous incarnations." Which brings me to my question: Who do you want to see get their very own Behind the Music? I think a Jonas Brothers one would be kind of hilarious (I just imagine the little one saying something like, "I struggled my whole life until I found the music!") and I think Kings of Leon would make a good subject as well.

Now it's your turn! Who would be your picks?
