People should learn to read with subtitles. It's not that hard. I hate the dubbed versions.

Naomi Rapace is Lisbeth Salander. The film made in Sweden is the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Whatever comes after that is like a translation and will be a probabaly sloppy copy. So I think nobody that already has an acting package on their backs should even try it. I´m proposing somebody who is starting out on a career. Her name is Melisa Denise Coedo and please google her name. All the photographs show that the physique du rol still has not been found, too dainty everyone that has come up so far. Check out Melisa´s picture on the agency website. She´s the closest to Lisbeth Salander that I have seen looking, not equal but people starting out should be given a chance (like they always say about how they had to cast a stranger to be Scarlett O´Hara, they needed someone to fit the physique du rol).

Noomi Rapace has EARNED the lead role, there is no other Lisabeth; David Fincher should do whatever it takes to get her in the American re-make if he must re-make the film. It's like getting someone else to sing Barbara Streisand, it could work, but just not nearly as well. This Swedish actress turned in a stellar performance and for those Americans that were too lazy to read a film, they need to meet Noomi Rapace!

I think Kristen Bell could do it. Or Keira Knightley. If there is anyone who has proven to be a great actress it would be her. They would have to ugly her up a bit, but she could do it. I think they need to find a talented actress who can handle the role. Emphasis on the talented. That means Kristen Stewart is out.

I think Olivia Wilde could pull it off. She is slightly older than lisbeth in the books, but she has the chops to pull it off. That is just my opinion. I don't think any of the actress above really fit.

Of the above, I'd go with Ellen Page. Both my boyfriend and I have just finished reading, he came up with a random suggestion to play Lisbeth that I kind of agree with - Kristin Bell. I think she'd be awesome... Also a bit confused about the Daniel Craig casting, I don't really see him as Mikael!!

I've just finished reading the book and have yet to see the Swedish film, which I'm very much looking forward to (it's Netflix streaming!). I'm not sure who should play Lisbeth, the girl from Alice in Wonderland seems to have the right look but I haven't seen her act so I can't say. I do NOT see Mikael as a Daniel Craig-type, that casting seems ridiculous to me.

The link is getting censored, but NME has an article that says the actors and actresses being considered have been told to work on their Swedish accents, so it must still be in Sweden.

I also don't understand the remake. The Swedish one is so amazing (and no one will be able to beat Noomi Rapace's performance), and very recent. In regard to reesiecup's comment about the accents... does anyone know if this new Hollywood version is supposed to still take place in Sweden? Or is supposed to be an American version of the story?

I think Eva Green would be cool! I loved the pairing of Daniel Craig and Eva in Casino Royale, and she's got a suitably mysterious air about her.

Kristen was asked about it but she's going to be tied up filming breaking dawn(both parts back to back) until mid-2010, so her schedule wouldn't allow it.

I agree about the lack of need for a remake. However, and not to bring the Twihards into this, almost every other gossip site lists Kristen Stewart in the running for the role of Lisbeth...why did you exclude her? She's not a terrible suggestion.

I dunno how I feel about a remake either. Why bother if they have to fake Swedish accents? I suppose I'll still watch or rent it anyway though. I like Mia for the role if I had to choose. I'll be watching The Girl Who Played with Fire when it gets released!

I vote for Archie Panjabi from The Good Wife. Noomi's performance is one of a kind, but I think Archie could certainly add something of her own. Watching the last 3 episodes of The good Wife was like seeing Salander working for a law firm.

I just wish they would get Chris Nolan to direct it, but agree that the Swedish version was near perfect.

I agree with the above comment! The original Swedish version was so disturbing and powerful, in large part due to Noomi. She was perfect as Lisbeth.
