Mary can hold her own with a dress that looks mighty similar to the Versace floral number featured below. Add a patent belt and a pair of patent pumps, and you've got a very Sex and the City-inspired look.

Here's where Sylvia Fowler (Annette Bening) and Miriam Aarons (Jada Pinkett Smith) discover that one of their friends is being cheated on. For the covert operation, Sylvia wears a classic khaki trench and carries a bag by Sang A. Miriam's look is a little more rocker chick, and much easier on the budget. Pick your favorite look below.

The Beautiful Women of The Women Are Picture Perfect

The ladies of The Women gathered to premiere their movie last night in LA.

The ladies of The Women gathered to premiere their movie last night in LA. While there may be no men credited in the movie itself, a couple of the loving husbands showed up to support the women in their lives. Will Smith always the doting spouse looked proud with Jada by his side while Warren Beatty and Annette Bening were as perfectly regal as ever. Debra Messing, Meg Ryan, Eva Mendes and Debi Mazar all looked gorgeous in their red carpet best as well. While we'll have to see whether this all-star line up of females can score big with the critics or at the box office for the moment it's all smiles and red carpet camaraderie for the ladies.

Movie Clip: Meg Ryan in The Women
People has a brand-new clip from The Women and frankly, it's pretty darn sad. It's the moment Ryan's character realizes her husband is cheating, and the inherent heartbreak of this kind of experience definitely comes through. You can watch the clip here.

Movie Preview: The Women Starring. . . Lots of Women

I was interested in this remake of the 1939 film The Women when there was initial casting news about it (Debra Messing, Annette Bening, Meg Ryan, Jada Pinkett Smith, Eva Mendes, Candace Bergen, etc.

I was interested in this remake of the 1939 film The Women when there was initial casting news about it (Debra Messing, Annette Bening, Meg Ryan, Jada Pinkett Smith, Eva Mendes, Candace Bergen, etc. etc.), but after the incredible success of the Sex and the City movie, I'm even more excited about the opportunities for movies directed at a female audience. If nothing else the SATC movie might have indicated to filmmakers and studios that (hello!) it's possible to actually have a female-centric film do well at the box office. In other words: women can be valuable audience members, too, you know.

Anyway, from the new trailer it looks like there's The Woman (Meg Ryan) and all her girlfriends discover that there's The Other Woman (Eva Mendes) but the women don't know how to tell her about this other woman. True to the original, there don't appear to be any men in the movie. This new trailer isn't phenomenal, but it still looks like a reasonably funny movie about female friendship (and rivalry).

The Women opens September 12. To check out the trailer and tell me what you think, read more

Inspiration

Missoni Inspired By Socialites And/Or The Recession

It's been said that this season's Missoni collection was inspired by 'The Women', a 1939 film about New York socialites.

It's been said that this season's Missoni collection was inspired by 'The Women', a 1939 film about New York socialites. The film, a boyfriend's Bryant Park nightmare, is cast entirely of women who manipulate and gossip within fancy New York apartments. As for the film's wardrobe, the outfits are sophisticated and conservative, what one should expect from the relative time period and economic vantage point. They are indeed striking but the film so clearly has a greater message to send. Namely, one that articulates the intricacies of social and economic power from a domestic perspective. What's interesting is how Style.com's Sarah Mower, without reference to the inspiration, attributes Missoni's 'grown up note' to a cognizance that the consistent luxury consumer (one who, perhaps, doesn't even have Levi's in her closet) is least likely to be effected by a recession. The question is, which came first? A cinematic inspiration that happens to call for a more conservative, high-end aesthetic, or the straight-up strategy to appeal to the consumer most stable in a time of economic hardship?

More Women Join The Women

That's a lot of ladies.

That's a lot of ladies.
A while back I reported on the many women who signed up for Diane English's remake of the 1939 film The Women, including Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing and Candice Bergen. Now, get ready for six more names to join the cast.

Like who?
Today the following ladies are joining the project, which will apparently include an all-female cast: Bette Midler, Ana Gasteyer, Cloris Leachman, Carrie Fisher, Lynn Whitfield, Joanna Gleason, and Debi Mazar.

Looking good, ladies, looking good.
I'm excited for this project, though I think the cast could still use some more diversity. Still, done the right way, I think an all-female cast doing a remake of this classic could be really entertaining and empowering.
