Where did George go on Grey's Anatomy last season? Why would T.R. Knight leave a hit show behind? That's what Knight himself talks about on this week's cover of Entertainment Weekly. While we won't get to read the full story till tomorrow, here are some early highlights:
- Knight realized George had "expired." That's how Knight describes what happened to George at the start of season five. But he didn't talk to creator Shonda Rhimes about it, instead simply asking to leave.
- He didn't like George's cheating storyline. Apparently, Knight struggled with the idea that George would be cheating on his wife, Callie (Sara Ramirez), with Izzie (Katherine Heigl).
- He didn't know where George was headed. "My five-year experience proved to me that I could not trust any answer that was given [about George]," he says in the story. "And with respect, I'm going to leave it at that."
- Heigl tried to talk him out of leaving. "I felt like some of the problems could be worked through," she says. "But by the time it came to fruition, I was [glad] for him because he was ready to go."
I'm curious to see more when the full story hits newsstands. Are you surprised at any of his comments? Will you miss him on Grey's?

I hated that George cheated on Callie. Really pissed me off actually.
1Yeah, the show ruined the character. I give TR credit for speaking out honestly and in a classy way.
2George cheating on Callie is what lead me to give up on the show entirely, as well as Callie feeling the need to suddenly become a lesbian. I will not miss him on Grey's, because I do not watch the show any longer. I do, however, miss the good show that it once was. It is nothing more than a shell of what it used to be now, and I think T.R. should be commended for demanding more from his job... regardless of how big his salary may have been.
I'm also relieved to hear him say that the George/Izzie storyline bothered him, as well.
3he looks so adorable on the cover!! im gonna miss his cuteness on the show in the future but i hope he is successful at whatever he does in the following years!!
4Good riddance, I hated his character. If only he taken Izzy with him. Aww, the thought of it is bliss.
5I hate Izzie and the way Shonda killed Callie's strength and self-confidence. I will really miss George. T.R. may have hated Isiah, but George's scenes when Burke was on the show were some of the best chemistry in some of the best times of the series.
6I'm confused why he didn't talk to Shonda if he had issues with his character and the direction thereof before resorting to leaving. But given the on-set drama and the outright stupidity of the cheating story, I guess I can see his point.
7I feel as if the show must go on!! come on people the show is called Grey's Anatomy not George Anatomy. He will be missed greatly! He was a great man on the show if he cheated or not. He shows us that we all have flaws and that we must move on with our lives. Berk left Yang at the alter and we all moved on about that!! Lets all be glad that Mer and Der hasn't left us
