Song of the Day: The Twilight Sad, "That Summer, At Home I Had Become the Invisible Boy"


After reading about The Twilight Sad and its debut album, Fourteen Autumns Fifteen Winters, on about, oh, 1,400 or 1,500 different music blogs, I finally decided to check out this much-hyped band from Glasgow, Scotland. There are a number of different tracks floating around off the album, which came out last week, but I particularly like the dreary and pensive rumination on adolescence entitled "That Summer, At Home I Had Become the Invisible Boy."

Gathering strength from pounding percussion, accordion, and frontman James Graham thick-as-mud accent, "That Summer" will appeal to fans of Arcade Fire and early U2 but sounds very little like either. Like much of the Twilight Sad's music, it could easily be the soundtrack for a dark British drug movie or simply a mopey teenage day. Listen and tell me what you think when you read more
